a small succes

the rear screen is in.

i used a mini seal, and it took some wrangling to get it it the hole. the screen actually went in ok, but the key strip was horrific. it you pressed too hard on the tight corners, the whole screen and seal simply popped back into the car. :?

its in now and its mega tight, there is just one little bit of the seal thats not quite right, but i think time to settle it will help it.

it took over an hour just to get the key strip in (compared to 10 min on a mini!)

oh, and the water pipes are going in slowly

Makes on wonder if it will just pop into the car sometime in the future. Maybe a few rally style retainers would be ok.

I do like it Rich, kinda reminds me of a Triumph Spitfire with its front end removed looking at the bulkhead :-)

the wheels came with the car, but i had 'put them in a safe place' and couldnt find them anywhere.

they turned up in the back of one of my mk ones that had a cover fitted on it.......

they need some new tyres, but will let me roll it around for now

the doors are all built up and fitted now, so a bit more progress

returning to the subject of the rear window - this was without doubt the most difficult job to complete for me, especially as I had to tart about with headlining material. Should have built it as a hillclimb vehicle and saved on seats, carpets, etc....
Now it's got to this stage, I've realized it's about the same year/model as mine (1988 ish)

small update, but with a huge lack of photos (broken camera)

i got a repreive from getting evicted from my garage, after the guy who wanted to buy the house suddenly discovered that he was all mouth and no trousers!!

ive cracked on and can report that the loom is done and fitted, dash is in, all the electrics work, screen is in.

problems still to resolve are door seals which stop the doors shutting - arrgggg!!

oh, and the engine is built & now fitted (less the head, thats still on order)

Image

its a 1071, 73.5mm bore, sw5 cam, 3.44:1 final drive - should be nice and smooth

me and wil got it fitted last week

8-)

you got a Baines catalogue? They are sure to have a smaller seal that'll fit.

im a Baines regular, the trouble is that the gap isnt uniform, it goes from normal mini size to very thin

got a bit more done, i need to crack on as im getting evicted in a week or something,

the good news is the engine has oil pressure and should, all been well, running next week

Image

the painful news, is that the exhaust just looks terrible, i think im going to have to chop it up and see if i can get it further up, it hangs down far too low.

Image

oh, and the fricking rad leaks :(

i cant do anything about them until the front end is fitted, as that decides the door spacing

they are a future hair tearing session, of that im sure!

From what I remember from my GTM the doors almost have to much adjustment! Everything moves and you can get lost in process. I also converted mini to Mini handles as I didn't like the Alegro ones ;)
