Re: Leeds based Surf Blue 1963 Morris Mini Minor
We've been cracking on a bit since Christmas so I thought I'd add some updates. Its now on its wheels and is getting there bit by bit. Most of the electrics, brakes and interior are in, just some bits to finish here and there. It looks like the Speedwell dashboard is going to be a nightmare to fit without scratching it to death so that might not happen. Any to some photos... 998 brakes fitted...

Petrol tanks dipped before powdercoating, having an issue with the sender unit at the moment which has dropped a bit of a spanner in the works...

Once the petrol tank is in the boot lid can be fitted. Tick.
Dashboard needs fitting then electrics behind the speedo finish, a few more brake pipes fitting then the bonnet can go on. Tick
Then we move back on the Cox GTM. Once thats ready to send off for paint we can transport the Mini back to my garage where we have more space to fit the sunroof, doors and engine/box over. The doors are currently being built up in my garage.

Your cars are always so beautiful Andy!
Let me know if you need a hand fitting the dash, they are usually not as bad as they look.

java gt that HAS to be the angle of the photo... it has to be... it must be level... IT MUST BE!!!!! Arrrrr.
Got to love a chunky steering wheel.
Mark the dash is very tight between the top rail and the screen air vents, I think the addition of the veneer and a few mm of thick lacquer isn't helping, we're going to chamfer the back of the dash to make it easier to for.

Re: Leeds based Surf Blue 1963 Morris Mini Minor
I forgot to add this photo. The rear quarter screens were cleaned in a bath of citric acid (see thread in tech section) then I split them and swopped the outer frames over, so the chrome that was protected by the rubber is now of the outside. In the future I might get them rechromed but for the moment this is a good alternative. And yet one of the windows was so tight it needed a ratchet strap to push it back into the frame, the other one went in dead easy.

I forgot you had had it veneered. Yes, that could make all the difference. A shallow chamfer on the back should rectify the situation.

Re: Leeds based Surf Blue 1963 Morris Mini Minor
An email from a forum member today has prompted me to add a bit of an update. The Mini is currently in my dads garage which means I can't get to it but luckily there are still plenty of jobs I can be getting on with in mine garage. The engine still needs a dummy build, which I'll do once my scabby hands are back to normal, it will probably need a lump machining off the top which might put a stop to things if the machine shop I use is closed.

I fitted-up the doors before lockdown, the sealer Mark F recommended to use under the window trim worked perfect, highly recommended...

The sun was out yesterday so I gave the seats a good clean up to see what needed doing to them, if anything. The two on the left are original to the car and have a few marks and one of them has a rip but otherwise in great condition. The two on the right are from Ebay (thanks for the heads-up Stu) and were from a low milage car. I'll use this set and just replace the diaphragms.

The email from the forum member also prompted me to have a nosey at the sunroof which has been under the bed for a few years. I think the plan with this is to wait for the sun to come out again and give it a good clean. The sunroof itself is in very good condition and should only need a good clean, the four headlining panels are another matter, they have some glue marks and the rear section has been badly screwed to the body by a previous owner. Will have to have a think about how to tackle that one.

Looking good Andy.
One the sunroof, maybe get some vinyl paint mixed up and fill the little screw holes with some flexible adhesive, then either touch in the repairs or recolour the complete headliner.

Worth a try. Do you have a vinyl roof in your blue clubman, does the headlining fix behind the window rubbers?

That's a wonderful build, and such attention to derail is astounding.
