GRX310D at Silverstone (John Rhodes) and is it Gordon Spice in the Britax-Cooper-Downton car or Steve Neal? Great shot! Thanks for these brilliant posts. Cheers. Brian

Its Steve Neal. The days when the (very damp) spectators (and photographers) could get close to the track.

I think the Escorts were 1300GT's - Twin Cams were a lot faster.

Morris Cooper / Cooper S in factory black with tinted windows...? Looks like it has the longer door handles with bosses.... '66 / '67 build...?

They look like an Alan Mann Escort TC's to me.

I was working in Australia then, for getting on to 3 years between '67 and late 69 and frommy memory, the Bee Gees hadn't made any impact on the music scene in Oz. The Easy Beats, yes, Brian Foley the mini racer, yes but the Bee Gees...., nope!

I believe all the xoo Escorts started life as 1300gt cars possibly the press fleet, the Broadspeed cars stayed 1300 and the Alan Mann became twinks, CCC had one as a project car at one time.

XOO344F was/is a TC, the ones in the photos are 1300GT's - these ran close on 150 bhp. They ran front bubble arches but generally not rears which were flared slightly. The TC's were doing over 200 bhp, some having Cosworth FVA engines in 1968, some being supercharged.

The Escort GT and Cooper S were quite well matched, the TC was much faster. 19709 onwards RS1600's with the BDA were faster again.

The old A Series with three bearing crank did a fantastic job though.

I guess it's John Fitzpatrick in the Broadspeed Escort GT following the two Minis of Neal and Rhodes. Telling Gold/Red from Silver maroon in black and white is a bit tricky. The Alan Mann cars always had number plates on.
