I think this EV thread is relevant to the Mk1 forum for discussion and may have a lot to do with our main interest in the future, as proved by the very interesting Electric Mini thread by 'Bitsilly' in the 'Our Cars & Projects' section of the forum. Link below for anyone who has missed the Project progress so far. 8-)

I still don't understand what's not to like about instant torque, quiet running, no more oil leaks, etc. Sure there's some hurdles to overcome, and a big ICE with a rumbling pipes still puts a silly grin on my face but I don't see the EV hate. Getting left standing at the lights when an EV or Hybrid leaps off the line puts a smile on my face, and I'm sure it does for the other driver as well.

Sure it might not make the right sounds and smells to tickle that petrolhead part of the brain, but the performance must tickle other bits too...

I personally hope that synthetic fuels will keep the classics running while BEV, HEV, Fuel Cells whathaveyou become the norm for mass transit, but as OPEC still have 100 years of oil in the ground I'm sure petrol power hasn't got the old heave-ho just yet.
Of course I know what a dipstick is, you get called something often enough you look it up!

Who said anything about EV hate ?. I just have no interest in them at all. Just like an antique furniture collector probably doesn't like anything from IKEA. It does the same thing probably better, but who cares if it's not your thing. Why don't people just accept that rather than expressing such surprise when folk say they're not interested ?.

I wasn't calling you out specifically Robin, but there's some real vitriol out there against EVs, I was referring more to the general petrolhead community. If you're not interested, then why the vehemence? (I think the lady doth protest too much :P)

Will EVs be as coveted as our classics? Probably not, same as most things post the late 80s won't be save for the exceptional cars. Will I drive one? probably when they become the norm. Will I run to buy one? No.

Good point about flights!

Never taken a flight anywhere.
Well been up in an Cessna or summat in the 70's and might have been half an hour but thats it.

Well i have come to conclusion that the world has gone fuckin MAD , MiNiKiN want's us to be hunter / gatherers , eating berries , nuts , leaves , honey and meat ,
This is a good one !! Drax Power ( Drax Power Station ) has been fined 2.5 million American dollars for poluting in the state of Mississipi , Drax owns a company called Amite that processes trees into wood pellets the ships them over to UK , Been polluting for year the report say's , Then it goes on to say , But the fine is nothing because the UK Government hands Drax 2 million per day for Biomass subsidies in the UK , So even making wood pellits is polluting :o ,
Electric fukin cars!! Fuckin hate em    , told you the world has gone mad .

My wife says    i have gone , cos i carn stop swearing :o

It is really sad how 2 people start having a very un-reasonable go at me personally. Just for the fact, that I am trying to put some myths right.
What is so wrong about the fact that I might know a bit more in this particular field and cannot bear to read about all the BS and half-truths any more?

Would I have a go at some-one for knowing more about Minis than I? For sure, I wouldn't. I'd be glad to learn something.
But this kind of mindset seems to spread more and more recently, were people become offensive and upset, because someone (who has spent a considerable amount of his life learning something) challenges their "opinion".

Furthermore I cannot understand why it's not possible to accept both - I love old cars and bikes, and I endorse the fact that we cannot carry on with pollution as we did in the past, hence I too love the rationality of an EV. Seems some people can only see B&W, no greys and colour even less.

So long! I am off, gotta continue my mission "back to the stone age" and play with bicycles and trains again.
Yes I am a nerd: I am researching the Austrian Mini-racing scene of the 60s and 70s :ugeek:

Anyone else read the overview of Electrified classics in Practical Classics this month? John Simister seems to think they're alright, and his pick of the bunch was a Mini with a Nissan Leaf motor.
