hi doc you are doing a great job i dont wish to be picky but looking at the work done i feel that the quarter light is a little flat that is maybe only me but a little bit more of a curve may improve it more looking at the aussie one it flows better but the roof was not chopped that may be why i dont know but it is after all your car and as long as you are happy that is all that matters as an old cabinet maker i have an eye for curves that flow
keep up the good work dont mind me
cheers roger mcnab :D

Hi Roger,
taste ist something very personal, so it is useless to say what is right and what might be wrong. I took the shape of the quater light exactly from a very precice photo of the original car. Same I took the roofline from. So I'm pretty shure roof and window line will match together. Since I studied the photos and curves for quite some time, my eyes are used to it. And because of that the curve of the Aussi quarter lights seems too bulky for my eyes. But its a matter of taste.
There is something else on the Aussi version that dosn't match in my eyes. Focusing on the transition roofline/rear window, it is interupted. The rear window does not flow with the roofline. And I believe it is also caused by the more curved quarter lights.

I already made the experience you have to believe in your own plans and decisions. Sometimes things doesn't look like they should as long as they are not completely ready. The biggest mistake is to change things in between based on such an impression. If you follow your way, everything fits and looks like it should, when it finally comes together.

I think it is hard to tell until the Broadspeed tail is on - at which point I think it will look exactly right!

hi doc
point taken and as you said you have studied the information at hand and made the choice and as you say it should look right when finished once the roof is in place thats when it will look right
when researching the unipower gt i looked for all the pics that were fully square on other wise they gave a misleading approach to measurements for scaling to full size it is a challenge to get it all looking good
any how you are doing a great jog with a project that has little patterns etc to work with
my fun will come when the chassis has to be made to fit the grp body i thought projects were to help us keep our sanity
good work mate cheers roger mcnab

The middle section of the original Mini roof already has the correct shape. But on the sides new metal needs to be added. I cut a matching stripe of sheet metal plus a few centimeters all around. Then I hammered the panel on the sandbag until it followed the roofline and was nicely curved to the side.

With the English Wheel I flattened out the panel until it had back its smooth surface and fits on the roof section.

Yes, the name is very German. As in most cases the name explanes the function.

"Rollenstreckmaschine" - directly translated >> roller-stretch-machine

Since we now know all the different names of the English Wheel, its time for another update. New and old metal needs to come together. Its welding time again.
