I saw a MINI done up as a plodmobile just outside of Carlisle as I was driving into work about a fortnight ago. It kinda struck me as odd as I'd never seen one before and I did wonder if it was just some publicity thing for something...maybe not then?

My brothers South Wales Police Mini Van restoration on the cover of October 2018 Classic Van & Pick-up magazine.... 8-)
Without the DVLA's previous owner record (now sadly discontinued under recent new rules), he would never of known or been able to confirm its Police history.

Fantastic - surely they would have overheated with that much of the grille blocked off?

Re VKA310H sold at Goodwood
Has anyone noticed the engine number, surely SA Y denotes three speed synchro gearbox. A March 1970 car would have the latest 4speed synchro box and be XE Y? Please tell me if I am wrong. Otherwise not an expensive buy? Cheers. Brian

Like I always say VKA and regularly goad the works car owners with when the need arises, The ex cop cars are somewhat rarer than the ex works cars. My April '69 cop car is definitely 4 speed synchro and even more so now that I have found and removed the stray fuel bowl screw from inside the remote housing where it was causing chaos while trying to get first gear - or any gear really!

How the hell did it get in there?

I had an issue with a 1970 1275GT once. Rebuilt the engine and box and all was fine for 200 miles until it started whining on the overrun. A local garage pulled the flywheel off, found the primary gear bush was shagged, reassembled it all with a good used one and all was well.

Well, until it jammed in reverse gear in a car park. I had to reverse it flat out and clout the lever until it came out. After that, the bastard would not engage reverse. I always wondered what caused that.

I gave up and sold the heap of shit to someone else. LHK497J, a bad, bad car that. It was never going to come right.

I dropped it down the back Costa! It went into the hole where the cranked lever thinggy goes. I also found a brass exhaust manifold nut in there too, But ain't got a clue about that!
