Bas international manufacture it, but I picked mine off eBay, there is another black set on at the moment, was about £50 cheaper than ordering from them and avoided the 4 week wait.

I was quoted £325 +Vat and postage so would have been just over £400, then a 4 week wait, so this seemed a no brainer

He says only 1 set but was same when I bought mine

Did you get a MK2 heel mat with your set as I had to buy one?

Just a pic whilst it’s in the packaging to show the pile, glad I spent the extra compared to newton carpet.

Does it look pretty close to the original?

it’s the nearest you can get and from pictures I have seen is very close. I don’t have any original for a direct comparison,

Have trial fitted the carpet, quality seems pretty good and not much trimming needed, the backing material has left bits all over it but will get a good vacumuming when fitted.

Also fitted the newton rear cards, didn’t have much trouble with them but think they would be a bugger to get out without damaging them, hopefully don’t need to though. Cleaned my rear seat again, and also cleaned my headlining up ready to fit. Then ran out of time for today.

Those carpets look great Daz, as does the car of course.

May have to treat TVB 56F, my Mk2 998, to a set of those one day.

Thanks,

Yes i am impressed with the carpet, car will never be a concourse car as I am fitting most old stuff back in, slightly worn recliners being one item, but I don’t want it to be a new car, I want it to look a little used. Even the headlining has the usual glue stains, but it’s all part of the car so want to leave it as it is, main thing is the panels have been replaced with correct spec ones and it will look tidy and hopefully reliable to use, think I am dropping the electronic ignition module and going back to points and positive earth, but still undecided on little details yet.

I managed to fit the headlining and rear screen yesterday, kept the period glue stains though, I then spent about 2 hours glueing some of the carpet down and trying to fit the rear quarter windows, gave up on them for now, just can’t get the windows to shut with the new seals. Will try again next week

Which rear qtr seals have you used Daz? I fitted Minispares seals in mine and have no trouble shutting the qtr-lights, the seals have compressed nicely now.

It is the minispares ones, but I just cannot get the window shut, I can close the catch but window sticks out a lot at bottom and the catch is bent to the frame, I will try trimming the rubber a little but it’s very frustrating, the rubber is far too hard to compress when closing the window, I may try pre squashing in the vice as well. My original ones are far to worn to use

I saw this car first hand on Saturday and I must say it's a real credit to Darren - she's going to be a corker ;)

Thanks,

Was good for someone to appreciate all the effort I have put in,

I managed to fit front to rear brake pipe, steering rack, column and steering wheel last weekend

ImageF0228312-46AB-4C70-8662-7AC18697283A by darren carr, on Flickr

Then this week I got my subframes back from powder coating, so far only part I have entrusted to anyone else, I thought they turned out ok, had zinc coat prior to top black coat so hopefully will be long lasting, the one thread is a little short on rear mounting but luckily just long enough to engage in the nylon of the nut so will be ok, so I have a few bits to bolt on this weekend, luckily all parts are already refurbed so should be a quick process to get it looking like a complete car again.

Re fitting the rear windows and the wrong sodding bloody shape different rubbers. Clever Trevor round here has encountered the same problem. This is what he's tried - and it seems to have worked. Cut 2x rear window shapes from some shutter ply and drill through both sheets 6 or so 10mm holes about 20mm from the edge. Put the new rubbers on then put the shutter ply cut-out shapes in place. Then get 6 lengths of that 10mm threaded rod - I think it's called 'studding' - put it through the matching holes and pull it tight through the car. This pulls the shutter ply tight onto the new rubbers, squeezes the shit out of them. Remove the ply and rods after a week and the windows seem to fit.

The down side is the few quid cost of the studding bars. But if, like clever Trev, the builders are in at work...............!!!!!

I must make a sacrificial pilgrimage to see this work of art you're completing Daz....... Are you far from Oxford?

Ooooops! Small correction re above. He's just told me that he didn't use the threaded 'studding' bar eventually but a few double lengths of that blue nylon rope stuff tied through the shutter ply and twisted with a few lengths of wood. Same meat, different gravy but a couple of alternatives for anyone that's interested!

Thanks for comments, I am near j2 of m5 in oldbury, but if you are ever near there just send me a pm,
I haven’t gone for concourse though as am trying to use as many original parts as possible, then if not possible good used or nos parts so not perfect but how I want it.
Can’t wait till it’s driving again though.

Hopefully get some more updates this week.

Still undecided on my wheels as have some d1 alloys and reverse s rims. But swaying towards the d1’s

I now have both frames fitted and bulk of parts fitted, still need to clean underside as it is very dusty, Must be overspray from painting body, fortunately very dry and easy to remove.
Luckily due to new full floor and boot being aligned using my frames they were easy to fit and literally fell into place.
I also used washers to space frame slightly during trail build to allow for the raptor coating.

Smashing job you are doing there, Daz, looks really great.

Would that be "Firsat" stamped on your rear subframe? i.e. an Innocenti subframe.

I only ask as I am in the early stages of rebuilding a 1973 Innocenti 1001 Export and

have noticed this on the rear subframe of mine.
