for all its history gaps I think its a good looking car and the red / silver really suit it.

it looks as if it was converted when the coachbuilders still had a bit of class about them, before they went all vile in the later 1970's

It's a bit of a mix. The original conversion was said to be by Hooper, which makes sense as the rear hatch and other features don't look like any Radford. The shape of the dash is very unusual but from one contemporary photo looks to be the original. The front seats look to be early 70s Recaros ( I had some identical in a W&P Mk3 and they weighed a ton!!), and the external body mods..who knows? Certainly look early 70s. The current owner has had it since 1977 when it was blue/silver (colour change with the 70s mods?) and then had it restored by Naylor's in the 90s back to red/silver. It was originally metallic red. I was promised the car for a show in the 90s which never came off so have never had a really good look at it.

There's quite a few press stories online about it now and maybe at some point one of the journos will get a comment from Ringo? I've only ever read one quote from him about his Minis where he described how he used his 'normal' Mini for getting around town and his posh one for ocassions (He was often pictured being driven around in a monotone white Cooper). There's not many photos of him with the hatchback car, the colour one outside George Harrison's place showing the side, another very fuzzy colour one outside Abbey Rd which shows the front and I've seen three outside Queen Charlottes Hospital. London in August '67 when he arrived to see his new born son Jason, which show some of the interior and the near side but I've never seen a contemporary photo of the back of the car. I'm convinced there will have been some as there were quite a few snappers outside the hospital and surely he'll have been pap'd elsewhere in it??

Nice to see the original pic of the RR Phantom V with the green Mk1 - this particular photo has been posted online numerous times with more a recent shot of Harrison's restored psychedelic Radford photoshopped on top of the Mk1.

Pete - remember the b&w December '66 news footage of the lads arriving at Abbey Road and being interviewed by a journo..? I've often wondered which cars Paul, George and Ringo arrived in that day, we see John arriving in 'LGF 696D' but I wonder if the others were filmed in their cars but the footage was edited out. Entirely possible that Ringo turned up in one of the Minis I suppose.

Oh well. I sold my mk1 earlier this year for £11.5k and it has just been sold at auction for £15.5k. Easy money for the buyer.

I've always been put off by the additional costs of entering into an auction but for a profit like that I'll certainly consider it in future.

Brightwells have an auction at their Bicester venue that is from the Jaguar/Land Rover collection. all lots are sold without reserve. There's some interesting cars on the list like an Austin 1300GT, a couple of Metros, a P6 Rover Estate and a bunch of pedal cars.
Brightwells are proud to announce that they have been selected by Jaguar Land Rover Classic to offer over 200 items from their Collection, all at NO RESERVE.
The sale will be held at Brightwells’ usual venue, located at Bicester Heritage, a business campus dedicated to historic motoring, based at the UK’s best-preserved WW2 RAF bomber station – the former RAF Bicester. It will take place on Wednesday 21st March 2018 and will feature an array of classic British marques from Austins to Zodiacs.

Details here....

JEEBUS!

There's some right old shite in that auction!

It's a splendid collection of average cars.

There are loads that would fit in forster towers very nicely.

There's quite a nice looking Morris 1100 estate which maybe of interest to our ADO16 friends. Although it looks like it's been lowered!

Must be a rare car these days. It's not listed as an estate so may go unnoticed.

Not a bad looking catalogue, no wannabe super cars just ordinary joe schmoe stuff, like it. There's enough there for a full series of the Sweeney.

I’m impressed at Jay Kay’s Countryman but I wonder how much of that was someone paying for the connection?
