i am rebuilding my 1071s engine and i am asking me what pistons i need? wich piston do you use for your rebuild?

Hi Fabian....
I used the original ones for my rebuid. I found a pair of NOS ones...

I see in BMC 3509 pg. MA 40-1
They used two grades of pistons.
Grade 3 AEG 018403 and Grade 6 AEG 018406 Standard
AEG 018413 AEG 018416 +.010
AEG 018423 AEG 018426 +.020
Correct if I'm wrong I bought two used 1071 engines and both had flat top pistons.
One was stolen so I can't reference it any longer and the other is at my engine builders shop hoping to get it sleeved back to std or .010 over.
My question is whats the difference between Grade 3 and 6?
I have seen dished pistons and flat top in 1071's from the factory so could this be the difference?

With thoose fuel prices we have here in Denmark JC, I can only afford to drive on 2 cylinders.

I bought a Webasto car heater, with remote control, as a early christmas present for myself.
That is without a doubt THE best "thingie" / accessorie, that I ever spend money on
Not only is all the ice melted, and your engine / interior warm, but on top of that, the car also uses less petrol
Now THAT is a win - win situation, if ever there was one

I'm looking for a suitable cam and had a few figured in but it seems everything I send to my engine builder is not good enough or slightly out of spec so a new cam is my only option. Something close to a MG Metro cam Vanden Plas is what I'm told would work well but I'm open to any ones opinion. I also will have go with a 2.76 diff again if I can find a replacement for my pinion is .001 shy. I ordered a full floor and front panel from M-Machine several days ago and it got lost in Belgium somewhere
Is there any fun in rebuilding these old cars or am I just having fun without realizing it? I'll get her there but not without suffering some major set backs.

Sounds like your 1071 project is going well too.... Hope you will get you parts from M-machine soon. You make a correct choice to take a new cam, instead of something you don´t know how it´s been driven.... I´ll save my nos one for just in case...

I have a SW5 Cam in my 63 FJ1071 and it is sweet. Recommended by Paul Hepworth and the engine is a joy to drive.

Just something to bear in mind, which you probably already know, but when you start putting the interior in make sure you have sound deadening attached to the underside of the roof. I recently bought a MK3 'S' that was restored a long while ago and had been sold on quite a few times because of the horrendous booming noise above 50mph. When I investigated further I found the previous owner had left off the sound deadening panel attached to the underside of the roof and the inner door panels. My 1071 has sound deadening everywhere and is a joy to drive even with a 3 synchro straight cut box

Agree, making an effort on this, makes a HUGE difference on the finished car.
never understood people who spend fortunes on chrome / paint & "gizmos" only to find that the finished car is a noizebox,
and then settle with all the stories about "thats how a Mini should be"
Nope - its not, any Mini can be made nice & pleasant to drive, with a little effort.

Lets see your project in color soon.
My lets say my "expert" tech building my lump turned into a lump himself.
Sadly he spoofed enough money from me to do the the 190 box so I had enough.
Time to get the engine and do it myself.
Probably the most expensive 3 sych box in mini history and I'll prove it.
This man has me paying his bills and running parts for him. nada...
Though I'll trudge on.

A little update from the project..
The car is finally back from the painter after 2 month...
Look forward get started on the funny part on the rebuild.. Putting the car
together again
Next job is to get the loom into the car.... pictures will follow later...
