Newton commercial. It's their mk1/mk2 version.... Comes with heat proof contact adhesive. helps to take the bonnet off turn upside down. One of the easier tasks that I have been doing myself!

.... And thanks Mark! We're getting there!

evonaut wrote:there was a bit of a hiccup and the car had to go back to the body shop due to the drivers door not shutting well enough...... that has now been dealt with so Coopers can press on.

the car was started for the first time in nearly 30 years today..........and here are some up to date pics of the engine bay as the car approaches completion.

unfortunately the delay due to the door fit has meant we have missed the window for peter baldwin's rolling road session and this has now been pushed back until the beginning of May! Oh well...... better than rushing the last bits and pieces......

i can barely wait!
...Nice one..what a legend Peter is.. take a look around the workshop at his race mini ?.if there and all the laurel wreaths hanging on the garage wall ??.. and hopefully he still does his Supertuned badges.. ?? F O C...look nice on rocker cover to ....foxy52

getting closer but there are still issues with the drivers door fit, and closing action...... alas, will have to go back to body shop for a bit more fettling......

in the meantime, we have progressed the interior as far as possible considering the buggering around with the drivers door!

front and rear carpets, and seat frames fitted along with rear seats, albeit on a temporary basis!

tacho fitted in its lovely repro speedwell pod. thank you mark. its beautiful!

we fired her up too yesterday and she sounds lovely. now waiting for rolling road in first week of May! Hoping all else is complete by then.

funny you should say that as i have just been chatting to Steve Cooper and he has informed me that apart from a bit of minor snagging, the car is virtually complete! MOT should be carried out early next week and then we are booked in at Peter Baldwins on 13 May....... breaking bottle of champers and riding off into the sunset very soon after that!

the most recent photos were from last week, but i re-posted them due to forum re-load from last saved old version loss of recent data IT situation! I have in my possession, some up to date shots with the finished(ish) article! may upload later!

I can not wait to get behind the wheel!

looks great!

those old 'gb' wheels look really good, I can remember when they where the only minilight looking wheels that 'normal' people could get - I always lusted after a set for my first mini but couldn't afford them - I had to make do with a set of reverse rims

thank you! i am well pleased.....

those GBs were a very generous 17th birthday present from my parents, back in july 1986. they are a bit sticky outy. i'm assuming that they would have had an 'S' offset on them? they are 5" with 165s so maybe thats it. original receipt attached!

they also need a clean although i have resisted a full restoration!

that's interesting

26 quid in 1986 is about 72 quid now, so about the same as a genuine minilight would cost new now.

...... and here she is, eventually made it onto peter baldwins rollers!

achieved 90bhp at 5800rpm at the flywheel!

mods to standard 1275 s set up as below.

rebored +0.040" (1310), standard 12G940 head, sw5 cam, twin HS4s with stub stacks inside k and n cones, LCB, single box RC40....... CR of 9.6:1

and some nice shots during the road test.

hopefully picking her up this week, subject to resolving a couple of snagging items.

thank you Steve Cooper of Cooper's Garage, Allitt Motorsport and M & D Ltu Ltd. what a great job! can't wait to go for a drive!

front hydro unit started to leak on the final road test....... you could say that was lucky as it didn't go pop on the way home! not feeling very lucky right now though!

does anyone have any experience of replacing single units, or is it best to do both on one side, or both on the front, or all four?

comments like 'should have changed to dry' will not be considered helpful...... ;o(

many thanks

Don't be disheartened, there are bound to be a few teething troubles. I certainly had a few after rebuilding my own "S" which had been off the road for many years. It all sorts out eventually. I have twice had displacers fail (in more than 40years and on different cars I might add) and have only ever replaced the failed one and had no further problem. I wouldn't change to "dry" suspension either ;) .
