Morning all,
Looking on the Somerford site it says that valve collet circlip is no longer fitted. Do they mean that you can run the engine without the Circlip. I was wandering as my engine had one missing when I stripped it down.

Once the springs are released by the compressor tool
when the head is being assembled, they serve no purpose.
They are only there to hold the two collet sections in place
during assembly...
It would be nice to have all 8 present, just for the reason
of not having an "odd" one. (Mr Picky speaking...)

Thanks,
Anyone got a spare one They could let me have.
I think the missing clip must have gone down by the push rod and got mashed. Probably one of the last nails in the coffin of this car in the 80s, along with a broken Dynamo brush spring which must have driven someone up the wall, and a thick lacquer of crap on the filter mesh on the inlet banjo cap on the fuel pump.

they are normally either floating around on the top of the head, or mashed up and stuck to the sump plug!

Never used to put them back personally, just a blob of grease to locate and sharp smack on valve head to fully seat. Original lightweight special?
