:o :o - never seen one that bad Pad.

NOS genuine or brand new genuine ?

Where do 'brand new' genuine items come from .... a certain far eastern country maybe ?!

Just a thought :?

It looks like the heat treat was not carried out properly. The way it formed a ridge makes it look like the steel is dead soft.

Looks like it totally missed out on heat treatment / hardening.

Looking at the pin, I was wondering about the hardening process used. The tapered bit is blackened and shouldn't be. The Original BMC/ Blmc ones were induction hardened and thus only the ball end rubbing surfaces were discoloured.

Best send it back then - just glad it didnt snap off or that would have been expensive - the cup and everything else is fine

I had one go exactly the same way, though probably not as quickly. Not an isolated occurence.

I am still using old 1960s ones for same reason, if I see any new old stock I get them including any gaiters etc.
