Help with a few details

Post by Daz1968 »

Not sure if anyone can help but I am nearing completion on rebuild of a 1962 mini deluxe pic of interior and exterior below to help identify model. I cannot find the jack and wheel brace and also didn't know what type it should have, also the chrome trim on arches should it be flat or convoluted

Any help in this appreciated chassis number is 125*** if this helps.

First Mini we owned (in the 1960s) was a very similar model and age to yours. It wasn't brand new but it definitely had the flat/plain wheelarch trim which I've no reason to think had been changed.

I do have a spare wheelbrace if you want one.

Rich Just clocked it ,Yep that would look good on the plastic pig, The first time i seen a GOF reg was in 1967 , me and my mate had gone to Newquay ( summer of L.O.V.E ) in my first car a 1961 surf blue Austin Seven Reg Number 1941 ET ,Spotted this nice well souped up mini ,Just married written all over it with candle wax, even had twin wipers on the back window and the reg number was GOF + three numbers or three numbers then GOF , so i gather anything before 1965 , Could this be the same car ??????? , How many Mini's would have had GOF with only three numbers from 59 to 64 ???????????, OF is Birmingham Reg.

Bloody hell Rich that's 48 years ago.

Nice car by the way Daz

Thanks for kind comments, there are a few marks and dust nibs here and there on the paint but I will address those later as had difficulty with this process. But for first restoration including painting in domestic garage I am pleased with final results. This one wouldn't be the car you mention as I have owned this since the mid eighties bought off first owner and was never modified originally from Selly Oak I think, just had a few bodge jobs from the garage the lady used. had a new rear subframe and heel boards welded over old and similar with replacement sills, but other than that and a replacement bonnet from accident damage was totally original so I have kept almost all parts original, it will never be concourse but that's not what I wanted anyway as the originality meant more to me. Think will go for the flat trim on wheel arches and unless I find someone with a jack and wheel brace who wont split them will take you up on offer of the brace. I still need to know though if a 1962 has the A frame jack or tee shaped one. there is also an old ratchet jack listed in manual but not sure about that one as may be from the pre 1960 with different sill layout.
