in car footage camera mounting

cant get the camera to stop shaking like its fastened to the space shuttle...the GoPro mounting stuff doesn't seem strong enough.....made my own....going to fit it tonight ,bolting it to the j/a bar above the parcel shelf....I recon Tim Harber's got the position just right

If mounting an SLR you'll need to triangulate the mount. It is just to heavy for a single mounting.

I have a Gekko suction mount for my hand held video camera, which weighs less than half an SLR, and I have to wedge something under the camera to stop that vibrating. Having the image stabilisation on does not help either.

If you look carefully at Tims footage that vibrates to some degree. Sometimes it vibrates so much it looks like a dream sequence from an old BBC TV show.

My current one cost 55p (exhaust clamp + long alternator adjusting bracket that appeared). One in thirty scrutineers say it's too close to my head so I have to swivel out of the way and then back again after.

I've always thought a degree of shake is good otherwise it all looks a bit artificial . Getting it right is difficult. With the old mechanical cameras it was always a fight to stop them braking loose. Gopro is only 150 grams or so , so it presents a different set of problems

Nice Bracket! But might need another (as well as that one). Years ago when video cameras were only about half the size of a TV station, I frattled around for a few months mounting it so it didn't shake. I found that it needed two mounts. One I did to the original mount, the other was a top steady, worked a treat I agree too, that you will get the best shots with the camera as far back in the car as you can get it.
