Mini Van - Original Wheel Colour

Post by steady eddie »

Have been asked by a friend for advice on the correct paint colour for the wheels on a 1964 Mini Van. Should they be Silver or White? If white would they be Old English White or was there some other similar white used on the wheels by the factory?

regards

Got to be OEW, why would any distinction be made on fitting wheels to saloons and vans?

Mk1 wheels were NEVER Old English White.

They were a preparatory cream colour that was painted by the wheel manufacturer.

I usually just as for "Land Rover Wheel Cream" when I get mine painted. OEW Is FAR too white looking.

Thinking further about this, I suppose the wheels would come from the Dunlop Wheel Company ready painted so there would be no connection between them and the colours used in the factory paint shop?

Thanks for the guidance Mark, very much appreciated will pass it on.

Rubery Owen & Dunlop supplied dually. Almost every part of a Mini was available from at least 2 suppliers to ensure stability of supply during strikes etc.

Wheel - Rubery Owen & Dunlop
Oil pumps - Purolator & Hoborn Eaton
Rear View Mirror - Trafalgar & Wingard

etc.
