hose popped off the top of front right hydro displacer

Post by dhenry »

Hello,

While I was sitting in my car waiting for the wife to get off work the car went pop and hit the deck. After quick inspection it would seem that the hose has popped off of the top of the front right displacer. Can I replace this hose? Can I re-attach?

One more question. The alignment on the left rear looks like it is toeing in a little too much. As i am fairly new to minis are there any common alignment problems i should know about, bent trailing arm, bent subframe, worn bushings? How should i tackle this problem, adjustable brackets, shims, bushings, bending the trailing arm straight?

Thanks again for all the help.

Hi Daniel,
If you have an "S", it may be worth repairing the displacer as they are really hard to find. If it is a 997/998, the displacers ar the same as later standard Mini's and are easier to find. To the failed displacer, it should be possible to crimp on a new hose on the the existing tail that is protruding form the displacer. If this is rust damaged it is possible to drill the end of the displacer and thread in a hose tail. This has been done successfully here in NZ.

Al

i was watching those displacers on ebay and i noticed that the bell end part of the knuckle joints haven,t been removed. they might need a good soak in plusgas and some heat to get them out. a common problem, i,m afraid.

That will be fine. I am used to dealing old rusty, seized rubbish.

How should I go about pumping up my suspension. I am not far from Caburn Classics but i would have to tow it there. Anyone in the area with a pump? I can provide beer. Otherwise is anybody selling an old pump for cheap. Thanks for the help.

Why would you need to tow it?

A set of competition bumpstops front and rear (still available from Mini Spares) or some small blocks of wood will keep the wheels away from the arches although it will be a bit bouncy!

Ok, job done. We are riding high once more. The new displacer seems to be doing the trick just fine. Took about 4 hours in all on Saturday afternoon. Thanks for all your help.
