So with my new boot lid deal fittted there is no chance of closing the boot lid, I bought it a few years back from Dsn classics.

I'm happy to take a punt on another new one. Any recommendations on a supplier?
I've got a 69 Mini with a 1046, Cooper Head and a four on the floor.

are you sure you have fitted it the right way round?

its possible to fit them back to front so that the hard bit is pressing against the lip on the body, rather than the soft deformable bit.

ive seen a few fitted like this and you need about three people to try and force the lid shut!

That's worth a look rich it was put on by a mini man but there's always room for error :-)

I have had a terrific difficulty closing the boot lid once a new boot seal has been fitted. However, If I pushed with all my might & managed to get it closed once then the seal does eventually settle down & provide an excellent seal.

Fitting a new boot seal even when it is the right way round IS DIFFICULT! But it can be done, or should I say I have never failed yet.

I actually reversed up close to the back of my garage, held onto the boot handle with both hands, climbed up the wall with my feet & PRESSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Very hard indeed.

It worked a treat.

A bit like this, but not as high up.

I bought new quarter light seals and boot seal from mini spares but have been unable to use any of them, the quarter light ones were much larger on the lip and thicker so they wouldn't close, the boot I couldn't close without massive force, I ended up cleaning and re using some old ones. My car has original bootlid and back panel required no welding so nothing had changed from new. The clips for boot seal were also not spring steel like original clips so they did not open correctly once pushed into hole, wasn't very happy about it to be honest. Will have to look around before getting new ones for my mk2 project. I don't blame mini spares as they only provide what the market manufactures and most there stuff is ok.luckily my original door seals were ok as I have heard these can be problematic with new ones.

I couldn't agree more re 1/4 light seals. ALL the repro seals offered by all the spares companies are total crap. They are WAY to big to fit the 1/4 lights & if you do manage to force one in your are likely to break the hinges doing so.

MS now do a new mk1 door seal that is excellent. Much more compliant than the old one & highly recommended.

Boot seal as my posting above, very difficult to compress first time, but good once it has settled down. This was some years ago & I believe they now do a more compliant one, detailed above.

I have never had an issue with the clips, I guess you must have had a duff batch.

Fitted my 1/4 lights about a month ago using a rubber supplied by Phoenix Supplies
Kaye gave me some samples and I picked the best one,with all that's been said I was dreading it
but pleased with the end result

I've used the Phoenix ones in the last six months and thought the fit was great . No problems with the 1/4 glass poking out or hard to shut ..... Ken

Mark I don't have a part number or reference as I've thrown the packaging long ago ..I think it's there run of the mill stuff and can recall they were in sealed plastic bags ..... Ken

I've also heard good reports on the Phoenix trim. A works replica that was recently put together up here in Scotland utilises that stuff...looks good, and have not heard of any issues.

He told me to use Phoenix, as I'll need some shortly...I'll try and dig out the part number. However, I also think it might just be 'standard' stuff? If there is such a thing.

Not a company I have used before.

But I have ordered a length of their SRS 127 1/4 light rubber & will report back once I have had a chance to try it.

There is a useful catalogue here that details all relevant seals, rubbers etc. for all Minis.

Is this the same as what Phenix sell? Need to get some decent seals for my mk1, tried some phenix ones but they still were not perfect

That picture clearly shows why the repro ones are so difficult to compress, the rubber is much thinner around the outside with a sponge centre which will compress easily. Why can't they do repro seals like this as the door seals and quarter light seals are same originally
