Re: Original plug spanner colour
Greetings, My first post a new member. I just had these two items refinished for my 1071 project. According to my electroplating expert the the plug spanner was Zinc Plated and the tommy bar is Black Oxide. At least the ones I have which I believe to be original are finished this way. Hope this sheds some light.

Re: Original plug spanner colour
I have the original set that came with my 1962 Riley Elf...still here..only 35K on it. I restored a set of the tools to match this original set from the Elf.
The box spanner was a duck egg blue..ish with a Melco sticker on it...
I have a couple of these sets here that are extras...may sell them.

Re: Original plug spanner colour
None of my Minis have had the blue box spanner. All had plain silver finish - probably zinc plated as suggested above.
Possibly a case of BMC having a second supplier but I've never seen one like that.

Re: Original plug spanner colour
As I said...my original Elf came with this set up for tools..plus a grease gun and a couple of other tools. The box spanner was blue..ish with the Melco label.
We still have the car here as it was owned by our family dealership.
Not saying that other variants had the same spanner...

Any I have seen that I can vouch for are socket (zinc, possibly Cadmium) and bar, black oxide.
