Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
I'm getting a bit of a thing for tyres with white writing. Has any tried it on the modern Dunlops with a tyre pen? Does it look good or just awful?
I've got a 69 Mini with a 1046, Cooper Head and a four on the floor.

Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
He drove a Mini in 'Play Misty for Me', but I seem to remember it was a green saloon.
It featured in quite a long sequence along highway 1 to the golden gate bridge, which may have been the title sequence?

Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
Back in the 1970's during the 'Custom car' era you could buy white rubber letters to stick on your tyre walls with superglue to look like the American tyres which had them already moulded in. I actually put some on my 'Customised' Mini with Goodyear Rally Specials and Wolfrace slot mags, however if you kerbed the tyrewalls it rather spoilt the look!!
I might be able to find an old photo...

there used to be a bloke who went to the local miniclub who ran a medley of remoulds on his car, he used to stencil 'DUNLOP' onto them with a spray can....
mind you, he was odd, last time I saw him was at one of the racing festivals and he was wearing a pair of overalls, I asked if he had broken done and he replied that no, he was working as a mechanic for one of the miglia teams......
yeah right mate - dream on!

Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
A quick Google indicates he still has it. I presume Pete is now onto his agent and both Clint and the car will be at Blyton

Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
I was told he had 1 of the 7 cooper car co. S woodies. I wonder is this it?
Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
A bit more Googling and a quote turned up on USA Toady from 2008 (the last two lines in the article)
http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/life/peo ... cars_N.htm
The Traveller Register also suggest that Eastwood purchased one of the Cooper Travellers and Steve McQueen had two.

The picture looks to have been taken in the 1980's judging by the cars in the background. Did anyone else spot the one piece side window in the rear?"I've got a Morris Mini Countryman. That's kind of an interesting little car. It came from England and has all the Mini Cooper S racing gear but in a mini station wagon.

Rumour has it that of the 6 Cooper S Travellers made, 2 were bought by Steve McQueen and 1 by Clint Eastwood.

Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
That was my understanding. So who did the bodywork, wind up conversion and trim? I do have some pics of some the original Cooper estates, white Morris's as I remember, will try and dig them out.Nevsmini wrote:I was told he had 1 of the 7 cooper car co. S woodies. I wonder is this it?
And no Al, Clint can't make it to Blyton, he'll be too busy ironing his collection of star spangled banners. (seen his latest movie, feck me!!)
I had some super wide Goodyears on my Vita-iSh, no matter what Whizzo did with it at Curborough he couldn't get the back end out. Dinged the front wing though when he whacked the curb!

Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
Sounds like there is also some TV footage.....
Quote from US MiniMania forum:-
"Taken back sometime in the 1970's, ('80's?), at a Pebble Beach Golf Classic when Clint was Mayor of Carmel, it was televised, as I remember seeing him drive up in it on TV all those years ago. Come to find out this morning, that a friend of mine in Chicago has the actual footage on VHS!!! I'm working on getting a 'user friendly' copy of that as we speak!

Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
Hello,
It took me 10 years to get those two photos of Clint.
A kind gentleman from Minnesota was showing me his photo albums at out National Mini Meet in 2004, and he had those with him. I lost his contact info. Then I saw him 5 years later at the next National Meet but he did not have them that time. Finally at the 2014 Meet, I was not at the meet, but with some help from friends we got them.
I'm happy to see they are being enjoyed.
Now who has some pictures of the McQueen Traveller?
Johnny

Re: Clint Eastwood Traveller
It probably wouldnt have worked writing the traveller into Gran Torino as that may have changed the story a bit....

Well done!Johnny wrote:Hello,

On the higher res pics (if you have any bigger) does it look to have a ribbed roof or smooth? Should be the later ribbed one to tie in with Cooper's conversions. 1967 would also tie in well with Eastwood making it big (having done the spaghetti trilogy by then), and filming in Europe. Has a W&P look about it doesn't it?
