I've used them, they are not as good as Yokos, particularly in the wet & just don't compare at all to the AO32, but I find them better than other 'budget' class radials. I haven't tried them on the track, but I would imagine they would be acceptable in the dry if you get them nice & warm.

Essentially they're a budget road tyre.Compared to Yoky's they'll scare you to death with their lack of grip when pushed! Even worse in the wet.

These tyres scared me - in the wet they were lethal. The only way I got them to turn in was to keep taking air out and eventually ran them at about 15psi. Terrible tyres. Other than appearance, they have nothing going for them. For a few pounds more, go for Yoko A032's - a brilliant tyre for the money and much better than Yoko 008's in my view.

Interesting opinions here, I wonder if we should look at these tyres with regard to suspension set up, maybe that makes a difference, my Mini is set up to the spec of the late Len Brammer's Miglia racer & I would never say I had been in any way scared by the breakaway, (that may be because I'm not scared of anything or anyone!
) but there were different compounds & some were more grippy than the others, I had the misfortune once to get a pair of Falkens of different compounds, put them on the front & the result was horrific, they are now on the back, where they will remain until the sidewalls perish! Having said all that, for a few extra pounds, I agree with youngres, AO32's are unbeatable, I once has my Mini on 2 wheels before they let go

Re: Falken 165 70 10 FK07E
I've run both in the past, i agree with both views, apart from i used A032s on a Historic Road Rally once and got stuck in some mud, where as the 008s would have got me out !
I also used to use Colway remoulds on stage events, would they be a red spot ?, in a 165 /70 x 10 tarmac tyre, and as a very skint young man in the early 80s we did an event at Albermarle in the North East, it was a cracking event, the Colways wore out and all I had left was 2 Mabor Generals on Reverse rims, now that was a disaster !, talk about understeer on every corner, spoiled the whole event... till the clutch gave up with the extra pressure it was under

Not the breakaway that's the problem when you push tyres like this, it's the lack of turn in.

Just on the Subject of Single Venues at Albermarle, In 1986 (i think) Mini Machine were sponsoring Paul Frankland in a rather special lightweight Mini, after we had retired we continued to watch, Bill Lymburn Escort was doing the event in an ex works RS, the event consisted of two laps around the airfield per stage, so there was more than one car on the track at once, Bill just couldnt shake Paul off, it was a real Joy to watch !

Re: Falken 165 70 10 FK07E
...So there u have it .. Falkens are what they say on the tin as it were ??!! a budget tyre that last quite well for road use .. I used them years ago... but Yoko,s are in another league they are fantastic...the grip is superb by comparison to Falkens...and they look cool with that road/race tread.. whats more if u look around u can get really good deals by comparison to overpriced Dunlops... that's a pity.. !!!.. so Yoko,s every time... foxy52billycooper wrote:I've just bought some wheels and they have come with these tyres, I've always used Yokos , so don't know anything about these Falkens, anybody used them, are these any good on track etc ?

100% spot on - They just do NOT turn in unless you run them at a very very low pressure - nasty tyres!Pete wrote:Not the breakaway that's the problem when you push tyres like this, it's the lack of turn in.

They have a low radius compared to other tyres.
I had a set of Camacs I could not wear out. I really thrashed the hell out of them and they would just not wear.

Still on tyres but a different make.
What are Dunlop Aquajets like?
My son has just come home with 8 brand new 165/70/10's for me.
I have Yoko A032's on 4.5 Minilites and thought I would get some 4.5 steels and put the Dunlops on them.
Any thoughts
Steve

8 brand new Dunlop aquajets... Lots of money that's for sure . Pity they don't still make them with the bead on them . Haven't used them for years but they are a great tyre ... Just wish I could afford them .. Ken

Re: Falken 165 70 10 FK07E
Never tried the 10" Falken. The 12" ZE-912 work fabulous on another car.... in the dry, not tried much in the wet.
Regarding the Yoko 032....agreed, a fabulous tyre. I've had several sets but use mainly for autocross (aka slalom).
They definately do not last as long as 008.
I don't think the 032 are actually road legal here in CA .....although I do use them on the road.
I'll not be able to buy a set this year as the price has jumped to $160 each !

I gather 032s don't like 4.5 rims. They are a bit "rolley".
I wonder about CR70s on 4.5s (I know they are illegal)

I'll be fitting Dunlop's latest R7 road tyre or SP Sport Aquajets once the car is finished.

The previous ?FK-06E? 165/60/12 were OK, but the later ZE-912 style of the same size are "not-so-good"...Spitz wrote:<SNIP>The 12" ZE-912 work fabulous on another car.... in the dry,

On my car, the ZE-912 tyres are terrible in the wet compared to Yoko A539. In fact, I consider them to be
******* dangerous, in the wet...
