Goodyear 165/70x10 Goodyear Rally Special Tyres
Anyone know what year they stopped making Goodyear 165/70/10 Goodyear Rally special tyres? Many years ago they were my favourite Mini tyre and I always used the tarmac versions on my modified road going Mini's. Those that remember them..........how would they compare with todays Yokohama's, Dunlop D93J, etc. I am currently trying out the Japanese made 165/70x10 Dunlop R7's CR65 lookalike, expensive for a Mini tyre but they certainly have a great period look on 6" Minilites.

They were my choice of tyre on tarmac stages as well.
That was until the Yokos came on the market.
At a guess i would say mid to late 80s.
Didn't the Ultragrips go awol at about the same time.

they allwase make good money on ebay
i sold 4 of the chunky grip forest ones and a set of allmost new tarmack ones ( i had no use for them)
it would be nice if somone made them again for the rally boys as what is there out there to replace them? its only really the colways and hakkas that have the same sort of tread clearing when it comes to the muddy stuff. they look good as they look allmost 185 compared to all the 165 tyres you can get now! much better footprint with less tread shuffle.

The famous 'Goodyear Ultragrip' tread pattern rally tyres in 145x10 size are available again according to the latest MCR magazine and a batch of 100 have been produced by Kingpin Tyres:

I'm glad Kingpin are redoing these tyres as my last set got used up in all that snow we had last winter and the one before. Part -worn and fitted to 4.5J rims to reduce the 'slop' they were also pretty good for rallying on looser surfaces. Be interesting to see how much they cost now - last lot i bought were about £17 each recall!
