A032R tyres..... legal or not?

I've had these tyres on the road in the past and they were brilliant. So good infact that I plan to use them again on my car once its ready for the road. However, I've just read a post somewhere that there was a rule change in November 2014 regarding the legalities of trackday tyres for the road. It basically stated that pretty much most are ileagal now other than the Toyo R888 range which leaves me stumped as there is nothing else out there for our 10" wheels.
Anyone know if the Yokohama range of track day tyre is still legal?

Yeah, this is what's making me wonder. As the rule change was only 6-7 weeks ago, I wasn't sure if web sites have been updated or the post I see was utter clap trap.

First I've heard. if they're E marked they're legal I thought. Even if it was true, I reckon you could roll around on CR65s race tyres and never get pulled!

It's more 'shite' from Europe, something to do with drive by noise regulations. So hopefully if that 'prat' in number 10 keeps his word and job. We won't need to worry about it after 2017.

The yokohama website lists them as road legal sports tyres.

Even here in Germany you can use them, as long as they are E marked.
I have heard nothing about any changes.

As usual it doesn't give the information that you need, but having looked at the Yokohama site and found that they do not have the new labelling, even for the A008, yet then they could well fall foul of this new regulation.

I think they have been banned for being a more effective way of removing paint from sills than sand blasting

...Does that mean Yokohama ARE fuc*** then !!!.?.I find it hard to believe ?!...I use their tyres and would rate them the best u can buy ,they grip really well ,they are fairly hard wearing..compared to Dunlops of similar quality they are a bargain up market tyre...foxy52

My guess would be that Yokohama have either still to test their tyres or are having to modify their compound.

I await more info or a definitive answer.,the latest set I have on are only 1500 miles old !!!!... their road/race tyres are very very good .. cant believe ill ever be stopped/checked !!! ooops ... though like most of us we get followed by bored petrolhead patrol cops that do an A N P R check on u and after a few mins ***k off your tail.. counless times its happened to me and I guess quite a few of u guys .. foxy52

Talking of ANPR, a couple of years ago a few of us were on our way to Beaulieu. As we went along the A43 passed Silverstone one of our lot got pulled over by a Volvo. It turned out the chap who got pulled had taxed, insured and Mot'd his car the day before and the plods pulled him because it came up after an ANPR check. If he had not had his documents with him they would have towed his car to the nearest impound yard and he would have had to walk the rest of the way to Beaulieu.

It might be worth having a word with your friendly local MOT tester, they should have the most up to date notifications on changes to tyre regulations. Last time I used A032's they had a marking on the side saying 'For Motorsport Use', or something like that & I was expecting a possible MOT issue, but I was told all was perfectly ok. It would be remarkably silly to ban a tyre which contributes so much to road safety, especially on wet roads, but I suppose to a European dictator, a slightly noisy tyre is far worse than a quiet one that slides all over the road in the wet I'll keep you posted if I can find any more info over the weekend.

Some useful info there, thanks for posting.

This also made me wonder about the Dunlops and Camacs sold by vintage tyres, but the pre-1990 exemption means that they and the Yokos are fine on most Minis, just not my 1993 Sprite that's on 10s. There's nothing in the MOT manual that relates to these new regulations. The MOT deals with the condition (tread depth/cuts/lumps/seating on rim) and not mixing sizes and types (Cross Ply/Radial) on the same axle.

It's not the compound that needs changing, it's the tread pattern that makes most of the noise.
