Nav. was to the same level as before, toned down if anything. Difference was the route, which was a lot more challenging compared to those we used on map 81 in recent years, where there were more opportunities to make up time. We tried to allow for this by giving more time recovery opportunities but the heavy rain the day before meant the roads were so mucky that crews couldn't really take advantage of this. That, and they had other issues such as mal de nav (car 4) and coil problems (car 5) to contend with. It was also first time cars 5 and 6 had run expert on the event. In the Newcomer class, car 9 was doing really well until they wrong slotted after STC13 and got stuck on a bank turning around in the lane. I sent one of the marshals along to help but by the time they'd got the car off they were OTL. Shame, as it was the navs. first proper event too and they'd stormed the tests, coming 3rd overall. Nice to see all the Novices having a great run though, including first-timers Rebecca and Jules Harrison. Niall.

A day/date for your diaries folks- Saturday the 17th of October, which is when the next running of the Borders Rally is scheduled to take place, slightly earlier than in previous years in part due to the Rally of the Tests running in this area in early November but also to be sure of salt-free roads. Hope folk can make it and for those registered or contemplating registering for the HRCR's all-new Premier Rally Championship we're pleased to announce that the event will be a qualifying round. ;-) Niall.

So is it no longer a 12 car and if part of HRCR is it open to other makes than Mini?

The Borders hasn't been a 12 car since 2010 when we ran it on a Clubman permit for this first time in order to encourage more, a wider range of entries, etc. The Tynedale event for Novices that we run alongside it is run on a 12 car permit though. But no, nothing will change, they're still both for classic minis only it's just that people running these cars in the HRCR's new Premier Rally Championship can now score points on the event. Niall.
