What a fine use of saloons, estates, vans and hornets , I had to stop watching after 2 minutes , guess that's why there's less Minis around today, they really were disposable

Well it looks like many of them could have been restored after the race.............and they still look better than some of the ones I see on here being rebuilt!! back in the 70's a friend of mine had weekend private banger races on his farm it was run what you brung, best/worst one I saw was a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud against a Chrysler Valiant. Oh those were the days.....................

Re: Weirdest Mini race ever?
having spent what feels the greater part of my life restoring a Bentley s1 (same as a silver cloud) I bet it made a great weapon!, they are big bruisers and even in the early 1970s where rotten as pears if they hadn't been looked after! (and cost a horrific amount of money to restore correctly - if your paying a garage to do it)minimans wrote:Well it looks like many of them could have been restored after the race.............and they still look better than some of the ones I see on here being rebuilt!! back in the 70's a friend of mine had weekend private banger races on his farm it was run what you brung, best/worst one I saw was a Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud against a Chrysler Valiant. my granddad bought one in 1970, it was painted silver top (the original) and purple lower (over about 2" of body filler) the original engine had thrown a rod, so it had had a 6 cylinder Vauxhall engine fitted, which probably struggled to drag the car around. because the gearbox had been swopped it had lost all the complicated mechanical brake servo and all the linkages, so the 'bodger' had simply fitted a bit of 3/8 threaded bar from the brake pedal to the master cylinder (which is under the seats, to the bar was about 5 foot long )
it also had a tiger skin steering wheel cover - cool
the lad who owned it / bodged it up used it to go and pull the ladies on a Friday night in Hull, I guess he would just wheeze it up to the doors of the club, get out, then after a couple of hours of 'i own a bentley' would load the lady of his choice into the back seat!
