that's a great looking car, I wouldn't fancy trying to touch the wicker in with a little paint brush and a tin of humbrol model paint if I scratched it!
the door cards are fitted upside down though!

Re: 1964 Barcelona motorshow 998cc Austin Cooper
Thank you!
The car is in "as bought" condition. I bought it from the first owner who bought it straight the 1964 British Trade Fair in Barcelona.
The last Mot was 1999 and has been stored since new in the same garage in Madrid.
We must investigate who paint ex the wicker sises on the car. There are no signs of any coachbuilder such as Hooper ( who made a similar car for Peter Sellers), Wood&Picket ( who made another one) or Radfords, etc....

Hello! Who is Taka Hira?
I think the car was modified by the factory for show use at the Barcelona show as in 1964 Peter Sellers appeared in a film in a similar car...

Re: 1964 Barcelona motorshow 998cc Austin Cooper
Good afternoon dear friends.
My car has been recently "rediscovered" by a friend at www.prewarcar.com .
I also spoke with the son of the sole importer who remembered this car and another Mini 850 mk1 in white with golden 'cannage' hand painted by Taka Hira for the Countess of Motrico.
I am still searching for original pictures from the 1964 British Trade Fair in Barcelone, where the car was exhibited and sold to its only owner, Mr. Obregon.
It is not clear if the car was showed as it is now with the Wicker effect sides or if it was showed in red with black top and them sent to París to be "cannaged" by Taka Hira.
What I know is that the Film starting Peter Sellers "A short in the dark" was relea sed in june 1964.
By the same time, Edward Heath opened the British Trade Fair in Barcelona as Secretary of State for Industry, Trade and Regional Development, and after that Ihe few over to Madrid for a meeting with General Franco at his home in the Pardo Palace.
