Hi. Does anybody have any plans/advice or tips on putting together a supercharger set up and fitting it to a 1380. The chargers seem to be readily available off BMW Mini Cooper S etc but whilst I like the idea of a power hike i don't know what is involved in making it happen.
I am certain i will have to add a decompression plate and a couple of gaskets along with a single HIF44 but pulleys and stuff are a new one on me. Any diagrams web links muchios appreciated. Have a good weekend. 34 degrees. Cmon. Cheers. Mark

Hi Mark!
There's a whole Mini forum dedicated to force feeding A-series engines http://www.turbominis.co.uk/ - I think if you read through it a couple of weeks (:D) all your questions will be awnsered - if not; it's a good place to pose them
Cheers,
Jan

Re: Supercharging Advice
stuart at v-max will probably sell you any bits you want if you don't want to just go ahead and buy the full kit.
Decompression plate is a bodge, but it works.
Carb icing was an issue but i think people run heater pipe along by the inlet to stop this now.
Makes for a very torquey 1380.

how willing to do a bit of fabricating are you?
theres nothing that complicated, the worst bit in my opinion is rigging up the belt and pulleys. if you can weld you can make the manifold and intake pipe.
as above Stuart at Vmax can provide parts if needed.

for the price of getting the combustion chambers enlarged i would definatly go that route rather than a decomp plate, theres a couple of chaps on turbo minis that mod heads at good prices.
also I'd say the top end for a reliable charger setup (done the usual suck through way) is about 130 hp at about 10psi.
for pulley ratios theres a sheet here...

Re: Supercharging Advice
Another question: will my recently built 22G1128 4 sync C/R box with cross pin diff take the extra torque or will I be heading for certain disaster? Currently a 1380, flowed ported head, 1.5 roller rockers, LCB, RC40, Metro electronic dizzy, 2 core Minispares rad.
Cheers

the box should be fine as long as you don't drive it like a hooligan, ie shock loading from wheel spins all the time,
