Ok, not historic (or even interesting to many!) but I thought I'd post this up, sent to me by Mike Bastiana (who used to hillclimb a rapid Mini Marcos in the early 90's)
" Hi there,
My name is Mike BASTIANA and I've been involved with the WRGB organisation in the North of Wales for a few years now, mainly as stage Commander on the Great Orme stage in Llandudno. As you may know, the Orme is not running this year and I've taken on the roles of Shakedown Service Chief on the Thursday morning and Remote Service Chief on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
As fellow motorsport supporters, enthusiasts maybe even professionals, I was wondering if any of your members would be interested in assisting us with any of these roles but in particular, the Shakedown Service on Thursday morning 13th Nov. This most certainly an opportunity to help on a World Championship event but where else will you get 'up close' to these World Class Drivers/Teams?
If any of your members feel they could help, please can you contact me direct.
I am aware the official line on the WRGB website points volunteer officials to register on the Rally Stage Team website but this is NOT strictly necessary if any of your members feel they do not want to use the facility as I can apply for suitable passes etc and provide joining instructions. Applying through RST will however, let the organisers keep you more up to date with changes, instructions etc
Cheers
Mike BASTIANA

Re: Wales Rally GB - Volunteers Needed
As mentioned last night to Pete myself and Jan have already been approached and volunteered for Thursdays shakedown and Saturday remote refuel. On Friday we are at Sweet Lamb and Sunday probably at Alwen stage with sleeping in the car at those locations the night before.
I do know he still needs helpers for Thursday Shake down service area as well as some of the other remote re fuel points.
A great way to get close to the cars and drivers for free and you can always do like us and watch the stages on the other days with 72 cars in the WRC rally and 88 Cars in the national event.

Nice, do you sprint it?
Mike helped me a lot when I first started in what was essentially a road car.
