I dont understand this? :?: I understand that a heck of a lot of work went into this car and making it an exact replica, but its a replica??? is it really worth 45K? I really not being rude or trying to offend, i would just like to know?

Its a very nice car and a lot of work has gone into the car, it has a 1965 cooper S log book with the number transferred on to it.

The way it's valued is an S worth 20,000 - 30,000 then with all the bits on top Halda(1,000 +), Tok switch (150 ish) and so on
But for me a 30,000 S has to be original (shell, chassis plate, body number and the dated bolt on bits within reason to be rite.

If you had to build one it would cost more !

Take the blue S in the same sale http://www.theminiforum.co.uk/forums/to ... ion-today/

13,500 and it was very crusty ! not an S shell repro chassis plate, so 10,000 to get it to paint if you paid someone to do it.
Then you got to find all the bits or make them, I would put AJB 4B it at 35,000 ish

Its like any think you have to find the rite buyer, we all have different taste's

When you're talking big money, it has to be right.

I remember going to an autojumble and among a weber headed lotus twin cam for £300 and 1760 crossflow with silly head for £200 (both shed finds). There was a chap selling a wad, (7cm thick) of registration documents. I had a flip through and among the Hillman Hunters and A30s there were all sorts of exoticas including coopers, esses, etc. I remember thinking "If you were to put one on a car, the police would come around".

I have a feeling I know who bought them and there was a Cooper/S production facility. Early Minis in one end and Cooper/S out the other. People lapped it up. He was quite sharp and blurred out the numbers.

ASBO is a mini which had cooper bits put into it, but kept the SDL shell. As it's a SDL shell, it's an SDL with cooper bits. You'd never say it's a cooper with a SDL shell, regardless of the identity.

If you're talking about a couple of thousand, and just an old mini, it's not really important. Now we are talking about £18-25K, that is a lot of money and a significant investment for many people. If it was a painting, you'd want a pukka one, not a print for that sort of money.

I'd buy that for what it is, a period Mk1 Mini Rally car and pay an appropriate price for it. Cooper S it isn't. It may have all the right bits. It's like having a sex change. You can have a lovely boob job and they can fold your penis inside out and really make it look good. So much so, it could confuse Ron Jeremy. HOWEVER, IF IT'S GOT A "Y" CHROMOSOME, IT'S A BLOKE!!!!

Absolutely, horses for courses, there's little mileage in all these "I wouldn't pay this" or "I wouldn't pay that" conversations because ultimately the buyer is the only one that pays the wonga over. Reminds me of the guy that bought the "For The Love Of Cars" Cooper from the auction (on telly), you could see that he genuinely didn't have a clue what he'd bought but it made him happy, ditto the guy that paid five figures for that beach car, it's their money! Works replicas like that are a cheap way to join the 'works scene' so to speak aren't they, I mean what's the real difference between a good honest works replica and most works Minis?? About £50K!

The main reason I think comment is required or worthy is when an expensive car is being auctioned off as something it isn't, that's then misleading and fraudulent, and has been seen from a few 'withdrawn' auctions in recent times something sometimes can be done.

I remember a Mk1 S that went up for auction with H&H a year or two ago that was built from an auto shell (though the original was with the car at the start of the restoration) and a pile of reproduction parts (ditto most the original parts were with the car initially) and the seller was very open and above board about the reshell in the description. Didn't stop the car fetching record breaking money (at the time) so it just shows not everybody gives a toss about originality and some will pay huge money for a nicely built car to use and enjoy. My first restored S was far from original (though I didn't know it at the time) but I loved that car!

Yes I saw those but they're too wide even for the back. I've bought two sets in recent weeks for MUCH less than that but still on the mooch for two 13 x 6's for the front. They did make a huge variety of sizes!

Those Jap wheels are awesome.

I did see a TVR Griffith (60s one) with similar and it looked awesome.

They would probably be quite good on a Berkeley 4 wheeler bike engined turbo mini AC Cobra replica.

I don't think many investment buyers (who are often not diehard enthusiasts) are that worried about the detail differences of the various Mk1 or S shells if say a Cooper S has been built into a replacement donor shell from an SDL or Auto Mini of the same or similar era......even when told what they are, as said many will still pay the asking price and are happy to do so at these auctions. As a long time Mini enthusiast myself I cannot get worked up about all the 'anorak' details like so many do nowadays......if its a nice Mini with the right parts and the price is right I would not be that worried about some minor panel or bracket differences because of a re-shell. If total correct originality and shell details do bother buyers then it is really up to them to throughly research the market or take along an expert to view as obviously not all sellers are totally honest....or perhaps bought the car themselves without any previous 'expert' knowledge.

Fair enough.

I bought my mini as a Mk1, because they are the "definitive" mini and tuned the hell out of it, because the whole point of a mini is that it is a road going Go-Kart.

If I were to spend £20k on a Cooper S to take to shows and impress everyone with, I wouldn't want someone going "This glass is from a 61" or "Those boot board brackets aren't in the right place". For a £5k car, then yes.

It's the same as a rubber bumper MG pretending to be a chrome bumper one. We know it's got chrome bumpers, but it's not original!!!!!

I must admit I'm not a fan of spending countless hours on making everything spot on detail wise, I'd rather have a running car I can enjoy, then if I know a detail isn't correct I'll sort it as and when I can get the correct part, fair play to those that do though :ugeek: It's probably why I enjoyed Blyton so much, cars being used, and lots showing their history through their condition 8-)
