Got the bulk of the paint off, left the bigger panels to DA, needs a small amount of floor pan , boot floor and inner a panel repair, along with a bad repair on one of the rear quarters, and most will lead repair.

So happy with the results, I've just dropped it at the bodyshop, going on the jig next to make sure it's all straight! I've decided to let my bodyshop repair and skin the original doors then they will all be done with the same man

Wow I'm impressed! I don't think I've seen such a nice shell appear on these pages! It looks like a California car which is what I'm used to looking at. OEW sounds perfect for it but I'd paint the roof black myself, with a set of rose petals it will really look the dog's whatsits

I will probably go for OEW in monotone, and some different coloured minilites in a 60s colour, but only because I built a white / black 1970 Mk3 S 14 years ago and I want it to be a bit different, already done the Reds and the Greens too !

Preparation continues now at the Bodyshop, lead required to top of rear quarters, bit of primer to stop it rusting, all that lovely "Gulf Blue" gone !!

Just been down to Bodyshop, and the chosen colour is OEW, after one last sleepless night !

Yeah, very happy with the condition of the shell, just needs some final repair's now to the boot floor, don't want to disrupt the original welding etc, so going to cut out and repair as necessary, its had a later front panel put on it at sometime, which i was going to replace, but ... its all sound and straight and true now, so im going to leave it, its not going to be a Concours trailer queen, i want to use it for Blyton / Shelsley etc, and use it hard !

Even so i did buy a trailer yesterday, its along way down south from us up "the lakes", and i've bought another Mini that's been raced, as back up in case the Mk1 dosn't get finished for Blyton, as ive sold my Silver Mk3 from last year, so that needs picking up from "down south" over the weekend, but that's a different story for another day, but its not a Mk1 !

You could always use the corner converters that Mini Machine do to convert the later front panel to the full skirt MK1 one. They only cost a few quid.

So I bought my Mk1 Morris Mini Minor in October, and i'm doing a nice "Mk1 Performance Conversion " on it, with the sole intention of using it for Blyton and Shelsley and a couple of local Hillclimbs, but come Christmas the car was still sat at the body shop untouched, so I thought I'll buy a back up !

I got talking to a chap called Terry Johnson who had raced karts then Minis for years, due to ill heath he was selling up his Minis, Historic, Miglia and Mighty.

He had bought the Mighty Mini a year or so ago and only used it a couple of times, the car had been built about 10 years ago and has probably done no more than 10 rounds, originally based on a low mileage, full history 1995 Cooper 1.3i, so we negotiated a price we were both happy with and I drove the 5 hours "down south" and bought it, I'm chuffed with the spec that the cars have, didn't quite realise what a good race spec they have.
image.jpg

But of course as soon as I bought the Mighty Mini, at last the bodyshop cracks on and the shell is getting near primer
image.jpg

So let's see what the next few months bring, and if I get my Mk1 finished for Blyton !, my 16 year old lads got his eye on the Mighty Mini mind !
