Chris. It looks like it's been sandblasted as a single lump.

I have a scrapyard by me with all sorts of exotica (rusty and ruined) in it. Including a lea francis, a couple of old jags as well as some race escort parts (all very rusty and shagged). Nothing that anyone honest would attempt to sell on ebay.

The first thing I thought was "it's been media blasted, probably using sand". I've sandblasted enough stuff to know exactly what it looks like. I'm sure Mark is right vouching for you, but it looks like a stinker to me.

I'll try to keep this Brief
1. I've already explained that this original Italian sand cast Weber was vapor blasted not sandblasted.
2. I've already explained that if the carb was "sandblasted as a single lump" how do you explain the condition of all the nuts/bolts/screws etc?
3."Nothing that anyone honest would attempt to sell on ebay" & "but it looks like a stinker to me"......well I must have sold many millions of ££££'s worth of mini parts over the years & know when someone just won't listen to common sense.
So "In The Shed" if you want to make a bun fight out of this it's probably the wrong place so please contact me direct if you have any further to add on the subject!!!!

Great. Thanks for your clear explanation. BTW, I am VERY much in the running for a 48IDA and I sadly got home after the £450 had finished. I did look at yours and it did appear to be a nail. Since I saw it on a mobile device, I didn't get further than the pictures. I thought "christ" and looked at the £450 one.

I totally agree Ken....while I do appreciate 'factory correct' cars, I personally don't particularly care if a Mini has some incorrect details or feel the need to point them out to an owner who is probably enjoying their car more like the way we did in the 60's and 70's. At least such cars have survived and as Pete says could be fairly easily detailed to original standard spec or period modified by future owners if desired.

Agreed, Ken - it's not even as bad here as it is on other forums (of all types). It's like Internet forums are a magnet for pedantic anoraks...

I appreciate a factory perfect concours restoration but I also appreciate a customized car that is done to a very high-standard of workmanship and attention to detail. After all, these cars are all about personalization and bringing joy to their owner.

I have no issues with incorrect cars (hell,if I did I wouldn't own any!!!), but I think if a dealer/auction house is representing a car using words like 'original' , full restoration, blah, blah and the car is laughable, then its fair game to poke fun at it.

these are the people who are the 'experts' and you just know that the flowery language / bullshite will flow fully when any prospective buyer arrives.........



cars that are ugly and hilarious on the other hand, everyone likes to laugh at those, but I always feel that that's more 'just having a laugh'

Ken, I'm not sure if that was aimed at me following my comment, but for £22k for a Mk1 998 Cooper, I'd expect the number plate to be at least somewhere near in the correct place (unless it is on the bonnet of course). And the exhaust correctly fitted.

Both are easily corrected but should be right on a car of that price. Both look so obviously wrong.

Sorry, but piss-poor number plate positioning has always been a pet hate of mine

Totally agree with the enjoyment point of view though and there is nothing wrong with period extras but please, come on, at least fit them and any factory parts properly

Ahhh... you two were talking about the Grey Cooper, I was talking about the white one! I've just had a look at the photos of the grey car and yes you're both right , horrendous bonnet fit, the outer sills look to be all bent out of shape and it does look like it's been assembled by Mr Magoo (especially for £22 big ones!!), no escaping it I'm afraid, even the exhaust is wonky!

I can't see the significance of ones that expired on 30/09/14 as there are loads out there with later dates. Ones that expire on 30/09/15 must be worth much more as they will, literally, be the last.
