Dear experts
i'm currently in the process of a nut and bolt restoration of a late mk2 cooper s. will post the story behind the project in time...... in the meantime i have a query!
parnell suggests in his book that the bonnet catch should be body coloured and is incorrect in the picture on page 63. however, in all the photos of mk2s and mk3s, they are zinc plated or similar and only the mk1 on page 35 is body coloured?
could he be wrong? surely not all the mk2 2 and 3 catches were incorrectly changed! maybe they were a part that failed often and replacements were always zinc plated?
so, question is, what colour should the bonnet catch be on a late mk2?
many thanks
adam

Certainly my mk2 was not painted, Jan 69. I can't imagine them breaking either.
I've just degreased it and re-fitted it. The 'hook' catch on the bonnet is body coloured, the one that you hit the back of your head with.
