November 61 morris deluxe

Post by Luigi64 »

Hi guys,

So last week I purchased this little beauty. She had a fresh MOT although there was a fair few things that needed putting right such as:

Spanner check, set up and grease suspension.
Fit new driveshaft UJ's(what a job)
Diagnose a misfire carb and distributor rebuilt to discover an incorrect coil, changed and problem solved.

So, currently the rest of the jobs to complete:

New carpet installation
Over riders, moustache ends and correct grille to fit
Wheel bearing to replace
Choke cable.

Hope you like her and keep an eye out for a few more updates as I finish her off.
Pleas if you have any suggestions of things you think need doing let me know!

Lovely.

Plenty of inspiration right there. We have an ignition issue on mine. I replaced the cold with one from Somerford. Maybe I have the wrong one also...

I am led to believe although someone more knowledgable may confirm/deny that the later coils are 1.5ohm and these will get hot and break down fairly quickly during running however the earlier cars had a 3ohm Coil. i got a lucas one from a local motorfactors.

Thanks,
Lewis

Dont know about different coils for the early ones ?

but íts easy to find out how old a coil is, as it has a date in the bottom.

Nice car 8-)

just to clarify, by earlier cars I mean pre 83 ballast resistor type cars that require a different coil to our MK1/2/3's

Thanks,
Lewis

Ballasted coils might still be marked 12V as they're designed to work on a 12 v system.

A resistance check is the best way to know for sure.

Also early coils were marked sw (ign sw) and cb (contact breakers - points) which is much better than the + or - of later coils. It does actually matter which way round you connect them.

Looking great Lewis.

Did you get your choke cable sorted ?

I'd think you should have chrome window catches on the sliding windows - unfortunately much more expensive than the later black plastic type, but something to look out for maybe.

I have a choke cable to go on but not the correct 'C' type.
There are a few things to collect over the winter
Headlining, chrome sliders, finishers for the door pockets, chrome grille and some parts such as over riders etc to fit.

Look forward to seeing you all at Stanford hall if you are there she will be on a club stand

I think I might have the correct choke cable in the garage - will check and get back to you.

You'll need the black plastic kick plates for the doors, not the later aluminium ones, maybe you already know this ?

Hi Lewis,

Yes, found the one I thought I had (very good used). :)

Does your cable enter the choke linkage assembly from underneath ?

I know someone who might have some early door kick plates. I'm going to see him in the next few weeks about a drivers door for my pick up and will see if he has anything.

PM me your email address and I'll get some pics over of the cable if you are interested

Hi guys,

Couple of questions for you,

Is my washer bottle mounted In the correct place and what type should it have?

Also should there be a switch on the passenger side of the speedo
I read in a parts manual it should have another courtesy light there?
Possible for the dashboard itself not the speedo?

Also am I right in thinking it should have a cream crackle head lining?

Thanks
Lewis

Hi Lewis,

Washer bottle is in the correct place.

You should have an additional switch to the left of the speedo. It's either for the dash board illumination or speedo illumination. Mine has two switches.

The headlining as far as I know should be grey, not cream crackle. Pretty sure the crackle finish started with the Super Deluxe in Oct 62 or thereabouts.

Did you get the pics of the choke cable ?

Thanks for that Andrew,

Where would I find the correct assembly and would you happen to know where that Dashboard light should be?

Received the pictures of the choke cable, I have managed to free mine off with a bit of cleaning and some oil.
Fingers crossed should be ok for now!

Thanks,
Lewis
