Hmm. My powder coated top arms have been coated inside the tapers and where the knuckle sits.
I'm ok about the knuckle (assuming it will go in with the coating in place) I'm less happy about the tapers.
Any thoughts? Am i just being fussy or should those joints be metal to metal ?
Nick

I always clean them out with a witches hat pointy wire brush that goes in an electric drill

That sounds like a simple effective plan!
Right, now how to get the remnants of the blummin roller bearing out!

I've got a 69 Mini with a 1046, Cooper Head and a four on the floor.

The tapers certainly do need to be clean metal to metal contact. If there is any powder coating in them they WILL shake loose.

Hi,Right, now how to get the remnants of the blummin roller bearing out!
a shortened and slightly bent mini pushrod works fine for me when removing old bearings.... the adjuster side of the pushrod usually "grabs" the bearing cage ok from the inside . Few hammer taps and bearing is out.

+1. Then I libberally gease the outside of the cup before fitting. The next time it needs replacing, you'll likely find the cup will come out with your fingersrich@minispares.com wrote:I always clean them out with a witches hat pointy wire brush that goes in an electric drill
