Trying to remove the fuel tank and can't get it out. Does the drain tap have to come off first and if so, what size socket is it?!
Cheers
Gary.

Re: Fuel tank drain tap
The early Mk1 tanks have a drain that will need to be removed to get the tank out. It ideally requires a long tubular 7/16ths socket that surrounds the drain tube to remove it from beneath the car. I hope that this helps.

I have levered the tank out without removing the drain tap. Its a somewhat brutal process but I'm concerned about ruining the tank trying to remove a rusted in tap.

A good old-fashioned "box-spanner", perhaps?Surgeryman wrote:a long tubular 7/16ths socket
