Yellow.

Post by Chalkie »

Hey guys

been pondering over what colour to paint my car.

Have few options

BMW Oxygen Blue/ Rover black roof

BMC Golden yellow/Rover Black roof.

Or if anyone can point out another yellow be good

Car was originally Inca Yellow I think.

Thanks

Ford Signal Yellow works well with black, the old RS 3100's used that combination

I don't think Inca yellow was around pre 84, I may be wrong because I am totally useless with finding paint codes, so I just go by colour recognition. here is quite an accurate photo of Snapdragon, Inca is a bit less vibrant. I didn't go out of my way to get a yellow Mini, but I have grown to like it after owning it for 28 years :D

If you don't wanna go for an original BMC color, why don't you check the RAL colors?

There are plenty of yellow shades available, you can easily purchase your prefered color almost everywhere and usually its cheeper than specific car makers colors.

I agree with the Doc.

If you don't want to go for an original colour, just go down the paint shop, ask to have a look through their RAL colour swatches & choose one that tickles your fancy.

Personally speaking though, I always think that cars look better in original manufacturers colours.

For yellow I always liked Fords Daytona yellow and you can't go far wrong with the Britax colour

I would like to know what is the correct "Britax color"? Do you have further information?
I already did some research but couldn't get a proper answer.

Snapdragon replaced Inca yellow on the colour charts sometime around 1980 or 1981.

If you want to check on the various colour for BL car of the '60s and '70s then have a look at the colour chart section on the site. I'm still looking for the paint charts to fill in any gaps.

If going for a Ford yellow I prefer Signal to Daytona as it is brighter, I did a VW Bug in Signal back in the 1980's. These days I would keep it original and go for the Inca colour.

Chalkie, PM sent, but looking at your photos you have the same problem I find with photographing yellow cars, the first one looks a bit like Harvest Gold, the second one, certainly Snapdragon, the third one looks more like the Britax yellow, which is close to or may be, Highway Yellow. It would help us all if manufacturers would actually stamp something in the colour code section of the VIN plate, mine is completely blank (it is original) & of all the cars I've owned, only the Ford Mexico ever had a paint code.

I would say keep it original. I remember the inca yellow being on S, T reg cars and snapdragon latter V, W, X reg. cars. Your car should be inca.

You got some lovely colours then.  Inca yellow, Snapdragon, java green, Russet brown, apple jack.

Here are a couple of pictures you should see the difference. Snapdragon is quite a bit greener.
