Seatbelt mounting

Hi ...

I was wondering if anyone could help me with some pictures how the seatbelt ( the old click ones like kangol and britax) are mounted correct to the floor and pillar. I cant find anything anywhere..

Although this shows modern replacement belts the fittings are similar. Many variations as Dealers fitted them until 1971:

Hi...

Yeah... Ive seen that page before... I was wondering as my mini was build the the US marked in 64 there might be a different??.

There are 2 brackets mounted to the floor ( As on this old photo of my car ). Are thoose normal in UK?. The old original seatbelts are in great condition, just have to find out how they where mounted... I can take a picture thoose later

The mounts on the tunnel / floor of the white car are not usual in the UK.

I can't see what you mean on the pillar of the orange car.

The only fixing I have seen would be a fixed nut and plate under the tunnel that the belt buckle is bolted to.

Hi IAIN..

Thanks for the photo. I can now see that the short seatbelts are crossed when you take them on...

The mounting on the pillars ( long ones) are no problem. The correct fladhead chromed bolts and distance pieces are used like in UK...

I just can´t see yet how the short ones are mounted to the brackets in the floors... thats why I hoped anyone have see theese export types before....

I took a few pictures of the original seatbelts, before they´re are going to be restored....

Are you sure the short belts were fitted to the bracket on the tunnel ?

It looks from your picture like the short belt has an end that would bolt to the tunnel with one bolt.

Are the nuts for your bracket, under the tunnel welded to the floor ?

Hi again IAIN...

Yes i'm sure the brackets was there. I took the off, and fitted them again. On the first picture was before the car was sodablasted 1 time. After thart I took Them off , and had the hole Shell made and painted again ( as on my forum where you can follow the restoration).

As you can see IAIN, the bracket som the end are strait. Youres roundet so the can be fitted to the round tunnel and rotate I guess...

First i thought it should go under the pipe on the bracket somehow... But it cant. So now i'm wondering if it fitted on the top, with a long bolt thru the pipe...

Dont you just hate when you did not disasample it yourself!

PS... No, they are just fitted with 2 nuts on the underside of the tunnel. With a plate for reinforcement

I think perhaps the belts you have although old and in period are not the original belts that were in the car. it looks to me like the original short belt would have wrapped around the central tube of the bracket and then been retained by a separate loop bracket?

As in this picture of a roll bar mount?

I see what you mean there. Good point.

But i'm sure they are fitted since new. The label inside the belts are written march 64. The same month it arrived to the US dealer.

I also noted that the brackets are not the same in the ends. It's platin in the bottom end, and as you can see on the picture it's a lille distance down on top. That must mean something??

Also i Think the roller on the bracket turns the wrong way if fitted as on drawing.

Anyway. I have to do some research at see if i can dig out something from US pages...

They also look aviation related to me? possibly they were sourced from an aircraft of some type? here in the States seat belts weren't exactly a big seller in the early 60's?

They where made by a big US seat belt producer that made them for cars since the early 50's.

Just this week I took a look at what I believe to be a 1964 (or earlier) Cooper S body shell with those same tubular seat belt (?) mounts. It was a full width front apron body, dry suspension, LHD most likely originally sold in California. Sadly there was no vin-tag or FE number (radiator shroud had been removed). The interior was stripped clean so there were no seat belts in place to help understand how they were utilized. Living here in California I have never noticed that style of mount before but I can't say that I was on the lookout for them either.

You have a few pieces missing. If you look at the pieces that are in your shell you'll see that the top hole is threaded.
