hi all, i tried to start my 1961 mk1 today with no joy! over the last few months ive had the engine out whilst i was having welding etc done. all of the electrics work fine but when i push the starter nothing.....
when i push the starter button there isnt any power at the starter but i do have 12v at the switch on the battery side.can i bypass the switch by just joining the two wires and creating a direct cable from battery to starter to check the switch is ok? can i test the starter off of the car?

Re: starter
I had a dodgy floor starter button in one of my old Minis.
I got round it initially by turning the button whilst pressing down on said button.
You may need to take the rubber cover off.
The contact inside must have been worn or very dirty.
