Shelsley Classic July 20th

Post by Pete »

Nice event this, always a great entry list, some impressive guests ( Stirling Moss will be there Ant ;) ), great facilities, late bar, restaurant etc on the Saturday night, camping etc. I'm going to do my best to get my Unipower done in time to compete on the Sunday which should be a good day as ever, usually a few Minis entered. Anyone else fancy it, competitor or otherwise? You can enter for the hillclimb with MCR membership on Sunday or just join the MAC on the day.

Last chance to enter this event on July 20th , entries must be in by Tuesday 24th June (tomorrow!)

Loads of room for display cars (lots of classic car clubs attend), it's an excellent event, the 'Goodwood Revival' of hillclimbs really.

Online entry forms are here :

http://www.shelsley-walsh.co.uk/events/ ... m_2014.asp

Several of the Broadspeed team turned up in 2012, Paddy Hopkirk, Whizzo, and Stirling Moss last year not to mention the BVRT Minisprint, should be just as good this year with the Mini Cooper Register as an invited club and quite a few Minis on the entry list. I've entered in the Unipower (the first time it's competed here in 45 years) though it's still gonna be tight to get the car ready!

I'd love to be going, but with the car under going some fairly major repairs I'm going to have to give it a miss, perhaps next year will be 3rd time lucky as I missed the first one due to clashing with a Wiscombe Park event :?

This looks like an absolutely spanking do. I know even my wife would go to something like this!

But whatever you do.....don't let Paul (son of Eddy) Jordan hear about it. Apparently he wants to develop meetings like this and "Bring in some of F1's expertise.......". And he was already trying it on at the TT this year. Mark my words, all "F1 expertise" means is "You can go here but you can't go there with that pass, I'm afraid"
Ugh!

No VIP 'up-sell' areas at this event that's for sure, Stirling, Paddy, etc were all mixing with us peasants last year, unlike some other events I could name as you say, and yes the 50's/60's dress code does tend to bring the ladies out. Some good stalls about aswell. The cheap camping, late restaurant and specifically the late bar are also an added bonus. ;) I remember walking around Goodwood Revival with 'the boys' in 09 on the Saturday evening looking for a drink to no avail so we all ended up back at the tent with the tinnys, which actually more suited Fish's Woodstock 'get up' as it turned out.

Where do I get tickets.....? 8-)

You are also correct about the Tinnys in the car park reference....in 2001 when we were there before it got too big, I had two tickets for the Ball and I gave them away to stunned recipients who thought I was mad. We were having far too good a time outside the camper getting sloshed to ruin it by rubbing shoulders with Lady Sheep Dip, etc....

Right here :

My car has a tenuous Stirling Moss connection and I'll try to ask him on the day of he remembers it from the '67 Racing Car Show but another car he will remember (well he had a big smile on his face last year when I showed him photos of it) is Ant's Minisprint 'VPR 470' which we're hoping to show Stirling on the day if plans pan out OK! (Sunday 20th!) 8-)

Well , my Unipower isn't going to be ready for this sadly. The exhaust isn't going to be made in time and the car will barely be out of paint.

I'm possibly going to be sharing a 1071 with a mate instead, should be an excellent event.

On the plus side, I've arranged for Ant's Minisprint 'VPR 470' to be reunited with Sir Stirling Moss for the first time on Sunday the 20th and be alongside such cars as his Lotus 19 and Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta as part of the Stirling Moss car display . 8-)

A few other Minis will be on show and on the hill aswell , amongst some lovely machinery!

Had a brill weekend , last event in my Hornet and it ran a treat as did Mick's '63 1071. Packed event with Stirling Moss in attendance who generously let us recreate the press shot from '66(?) sitting in VPR 470 8-) . I'll post that up when I recieve the images from the pro photographers. Awesome event, found some new info on my Unipower, as did Ant on 'VPR', some fantastic cars, some fantastic ladies!, great weather, a great knowledgable crowd, great beer, and still evidently a well kept secret judging by the total lack of any Minis in the classic car park.

Roll on next year! :)

Was a great weekend, really great laugh with Ant, Andrew, and Pete. Some classic moments, not dissimilar to the first pageant of power.....Mark, you will love it.

We should do a forum get together next year, they have oodles of space for cars. You won't find a more scenic venue, especially when viewed from behind the Vegas Showgirls! :D
