Colmore Depot BMC Dealership

Post by big-un1967 »

Can anyone shed any light on the address or even better some pictures of the Colmore Depot Garage at Worcester?

I know where HA Sanders was (now a carpet shop - still a beautiful building), but unsure where Colmore Depot was located? I think it would have been the Morris agent in Worcester, and Sanders the Austin one?

I have some old BMC Maps that had dealerships within them, but unfortunately I dont have one for Worcestershire.

I think it would be quite nice to have a section, of addresses of BMC dealerships in the 1960's, with pictures if possible.

You can then picture where your car from? Apart from Longbridge that is?

Thanks.......

Paul.

Paul they were listed as : Colemor Depot Ltd, County Garages, The Tything , Worcester . They supplied Austin, Morris, Wolseley, MG & Riley cars + Morris Commercials. Great thread on dealerships here : viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3602&p=25324&hilit= ... ges#p25271

Not relevant to Colmore Depot but I think it's H A Saunders not Sanders. It's the dealer who supplied the Austin Mk 2 S I used to own.

Mine was registered here too. After a bit of digging on Google street view it appears this is now the Dragon Inn.

It depends on what date - they moved in the early 1960's to Angel Street. More info on the move on the top link.

The Angel Street site has recently become a Co-Op food store although it is a Somerfield on the bottom link image (the image is from 2009).

Colmore Depot were the Morris distributors for the Worcestershire area so unless your car has an FK Worcester city registration it is most unlikely to have been sold by them. Even if it is an FK registration, there were three other Morris dealers in the city who would have got their cars through Colmore Depot.
The power of accurate observation is commonly called cynicism by those who do not possess it.
