A nice complete looking Crayford Convertible, it's even got an SPQR gear selector.

The seller of the Crayford is the same person as was selling the 2 police Cooper S's a few weeks ago.

Also one of the two "Transworld Mini's" can be seen in the background of the 4th photo.mk1 wrote:The seller of the Crayford is the same person as was selling the 2 police Cooper S's a few weeks ago.

Interesting thing that!
I somehow doubt the dubious Mini connection though.

I've heard an awful lot of interesting (and mostly factual) stories over the years regarding development of the Mini but none relating to such an engine OR rear wheel drive.....
Fabricating the exhaust would have been interesting in a transverse installation wouldn't it and where would the gearbox have gone?

I think the reference to a morris minor is a plausible reason for its existence as I believe Issigonis originally intended his 'mosquito' to have a flat four engine but was told to use the nuffield parts bin for engines etc...

This is a Downton car belonging to and being driven by Michelle Burns-Greig :
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1960s-Mini-Co ... 3ce304b2c3
Though she was from the Scottish Borders and rubbed shoulder with Stewart, Clark et al she was dating race driver Roy "The Weasel" James of The Great Train Robbery infamy and this car was built by Downton. Whilst the car was in their workshop one day for work (according to Barry Hawkins) the place was surrounded by the Police and the car was taken apart in search of the loot!
Bit of background info there!
