Cooper S Mk3 W&P (?)

Post by camelot »

Hi,

My name is Gergo, I live in Hungary. I just acquired an Mk3 Cooper S with a strange interior. I was told by a gentleman, that it might be a W&P work. I would like to confirm this if possible, and collect some informations for its restoration.

I started a blog and have my pictures there, but if You would like, I can upload them here also.

http://coopersmk3.blogspot.hu/

I would be gratefull for any information, photos of convetred cars etc.

Many thans in advance!

Do you have any pic of the doors and dash. Your blog has very few photos of your car. The door cards do look W&P!

Dashboard as we found. Uppon closer look, it was veneer faced, with supposedly mahagony trim.

We had pro looking extra wining going to the front, which might have been there for grille lamps. But we have no prove on that, and also no switches.

On the rear there was extra wiring set for the heated screen.

Well done for starting a thread on here Gergo, you should get some good advice.

As we've discussed the rear seat modification is classic W&P ,trim cards, carpet, all looks early W&P to me. If it is W&P then it's a rarity as they did very few Mk3's. Despite the fact your car didn't have all the whistles and bells you could basically order as much or as little as you wanted. The front seats are very similar to these 1970 W&P items :

Rear seat modification visible on my old Mk3 :

..though your rear companion boxes weren't cut back to accept recliners.

I wonder if your wacky paint job was done in period?

The paintjob was not done in the period for sure.
The car was flame red originaly, and the second coat was also red, and actualy applied with a brush  . The third layer was this "battle ship" trim. Although all the brightwork was painted black at a time, and that was done to a very high standard.

Nice project Camelot. She is definitely a W&P but not the full conversion 'Margrave' as Pete says. Keep us posted on your progress.

I was wondering if any of You have a picture how the fog light swithc panel could look like on a non-margrave W&P.

Pete,

Do You accidently have pictures of the door cards which belonged to the seats? Is there a chance that You know the W&P number of that one? I have found a number on the back of the door cards (7772), which I think might be the W&P project number.
