Wheel braces

Hi guys,
Some time ago I mentioned I had noted two wheel braces, one a little heavier than the other. The lighter one is 7/16" and the heavier is 1/2" I assume the heavier is later and it seems maybe the change was '65, maybe '66. Has anybody any answers on this?
