You could try and find a rare and expensive ali Speedwell job but it won't be any better than a nicely tickled 12G295!

The most exotic by far is the Alexander 7 port X Flow. Very rare & difficult to find ready to run, but owrk VERY well at the cost of unsightly hump backed bonnet or cutouts.

Not to Forget the Arden 8-port. Jim Whitehouse developed this one for the 998.

Yea - I thought of an Arden but I dont want 2 Arden 8 port cars - Especially if i have to mod the bonnet to get the carbs to fit..Horrid even if i say so myself, Suppose i could use amals if i was stupid enough but i want a bit of reliability - any other carbs out there that are small enough to fit to an Arden ?
I do like the Alexander 7 port though

Look for the silver one. It's an Arden with two DCOEs.

yes whatever rich.. its actually a space for my flask or Earl Grey..
With the Arden and std bonnet everything is to jammed in under neath it, especially with webers. The short stubby bent inlets would bug the hell out of me, plus i think i would just keep comparing it to my rally car and think its down on power.
Didnt speedwell make a 7 port head - although i bet these are like RHS as well to find

rumors or ever proved? Nick Swift claims his 1293 annex K engine to have 120HP. Ours is a little bit more. (short stroke 1290 with Arden and Weber 40 DCOEs under a standard bonnet.)

Re: WHATS AVAILABLE IN TERMS OF EXOTIC HEADS FOR A 998 COOPE
Has anyone ever seen a 'Sebring' 6 port head? Bill Needham confirmed thet this is what was originally fited to the Mink, but the footage of it being built show a 'standard' 3 branch exhause manifold, so it must ave had a 5 port as well at some point.
I assume the Sebring 6 ports were a Xflow?
I think I read in the car's history that 6 were built by the Works, and Bill / John Haughton bought it from Frank Williams

Re: WHATS AVAILABLE IN TERMS OF EXOTIC HEADS FOR A 998 COOPE
A mate of mine did the FIA European historic championship in the 90's with just over 100bhp,(and won his class!) that's how far things have come since then.
Paul you could do what some did with Alexander 7 ports and just stick the carbs out through a hole in the bonnet? There again, I'd have nowhere to stick my steak and chips in the pub car park if you did that.

Re: WHATS AVAILABLE IN TERMS OF EXOTIC HEADS FOR A 998 COOPE
Don't think the Speedwell 7 port would work on a mini. I was planning on using one on a cox gtm as I had plenty of room for inlets/carbs an exhaust. But sold all off in the end. I currently have a Alexander 7 porter awaiting the right car to come along to bolt it onto.
Depends what you want, power or period looks ?

Speedwell did make a 7 port head, I had 2 at one time. A fully machined ready to run one & a blank casting. Both have sadly now gone. I think the machined one is still owned by a forum member.

Mark I sold it to Tim then bought it back with the intention of using it on the COX, but after a ride in Richs GTM I've decided to go 1071 Not sure what to do with it now, will probably have another go at fitting it to the Frogeye, just need to get hold of a decent pair of 40s to play with.mk1 wrote:Speedwell did make a 7 port head, I had 2 at one time.
