Info on Flares and Perspex Windows

Hi all,
I am new to this forum and new to mini's so if I ask dumb questions please allow me some slack.

I am currently working on a 67 Cooper S (replica at least) which I want to run in the Australian Historic Touring Cars competition. I have a picture of current colour scheme of my mini attached and I have added the URL for the regs at the bottom of the post.

I am allowed to run flares and perspex windows on the mini but the regs quote:
Flare Kit: # JJ 3316
Flare Kit: # JJ 3353
Perspex Window: # C/A JJ 3363A

Do these numbers mean anything to you guys and if they do can you please provide any further info so I can work out if the flares currently on the mini are compliant so I can win any arguments I get into once I get it on the track. Ideally a drawing would be great. From what I have been told, I have Group 2 flares on the mini at the moment.

My plan is to build the mini to replicate John Handleys 68 European winning Cooper S at least in colour scheme and from what I can see, it ran the same flares I currently have. I know that John's car has been restored and if there are any photo's around I would appreciate having a look.

I will appreciate any assistance.

C-AJJ3316 is the part number for ST Gp2 arches as used by the works Minis etc from 1966 onward http://www.minispares.com/product/class ... J3316.aspx . Your arches look a little flatter on the photo but do look the same width.
The later cars tended to use the wider arches which many refer to as 'Group Two and a half' in the '68 period you refer to, CCC , Vita , Arden etc to cover the wider wheels/tyres available. http://www.minispares.com/product/Class ... .aspx|Back to

Handley's European championship winning car used the above type of arch, the car hasn't been restored though is owned by one of the forum members, maybe you're confusing it with Alec Poole's '69 BSCC winning Arden car which has been restored (by yet another forum member in NZ!)

Hi Sabre

As stated the grp 2 flares are the go... not sure about replacement for original sources of perspex windows,, or alum doors and boot if you have them ( both allowed) The cams regs are not easy to interpret ( or not to me at least) , for best info ask one of the current Group Nc mini drivers. Graham Russell in Sydney (Russell engineering) and Ken Nelson in Ipswich/Brisbane (Mini Automotive) both have fast Group Nc cars, been racing a long time and love to chat. Best of luck

Perspex Window: # C/A JJ 3363A

Was the original part number given to the perspex (Acrylic/Plexiglass) window kits available from ST

whilst the regs say you can use Perspex windows , that particular material is not allowed by most governing bodies as its not shatter proof and not classed as a safety glass.

These days you need to run with a Polycarbonate window set (Lexan, Makrolon, Arla etc) and these usually need to be marked up to show the specific material they are made from .

Polycarbonate windows are available in 2 different flavours, Standard UV protected grade and an anti scratch version or Hardcoated as its sometimes called

Certain companies can also provide E Marked and therefore fully road legal windows (there is only 1 company in Europe able to do this )

Just read the regs and as usual there written by a very badly informed person who doesnt realise they are telling you to use a product that the FIA / Cams will not let you use.

Same over here in the UK , especially with our stupid historic rules that only allow composite windows ?

Thanks all for the input. I have what I was looking for in the flares and it looks like mine are Group 2 flare which match the part numbers provided by CAMS. The problem is there is also an overall width that my flares do not meet but as mentioned my flares appear flatter than they should be so I may be able to bring them in a bit.

The rules say I can use the perspex window non opening kit C/A JJ 3363A so long as I use the appropriate seal kit. From talking to other Australian competitors there is no problem with using perspex but does anyone know what seal kit was used with the original sliding glass doors? I have looked through Mini Sport and I can only see drop window perspex kits.

Pad, I meant to say its OK to use Poly Carb as you suggested.

there was never a special seal kit for the perspex windows, just use the std seals

if you are going to use Perspex the please think about putting a sheet of ant shatter window film on the windows near your face - ive seen to many nasty accidents caused by it in a crash.
