Also picture of yours truly (4th from right with camera) in picture 60 of 63 at Brands for the GP
For thoose of you who haven't seen Mini mag, see Nick Faure's website with lovely Stirling Moss story. The 1071 broke down outside our place and we got to mend it and so had a good chat with him.

Re: Bargain Buys
consider that the average wage in this period was about 1200-1500 per year, they are not 'bargains' as such
but its a nice selection!
I will take vpr I think

Er, not too sure about that. £585 in 1968 equates to £8,860 in today's money...for an ex-Steve Neal Equipe Arden 1400.rich@minispares.com wrote:...they are not 'bargains' as such.

Re: Bargain Buys
my point is how many people then (or now) would have been able to lay down a third / half a years wages on a secondhand car?mricsman wrote:Er, not too sure about that. £585 in 1968 equates to £8,860 in today's money...for an ex-Steve Neal Equipe Arden 1400.rich@minispares.com wrote:...they are not 'bargains' as such.
when you look at it like that they are not the bargains they appear to be!
maybe im just a tight yorkshireman!
Re: Bargain Buys
Yes, a fair point Rich. I might just agree with you about the Yorkshireman bit (I'm from Lancashire!!!).rich@minispares.com wrote:my point is how many people then (or now) would have been able to lay down a third / half a years wages on a secondhand car?mricsman wrote:Er, not too sure about that. £585 in 1968 equates to £8,860 in today's money...for an ex-Steve Neal Equipe Arden 1400.rich@minispares.com wrote:...they are not 'bargains' as such.

Re: Bargain Buys
My 'Bargain Buys' title wasn't meant literally , all these cars were big money back then for the average Joe. Plus many of these previous owners etc were no big deal back then, same with ex works Minis, ten a penny.rich@minispares.com wrote: when you look at it like that they are not the bargains they appear to be!

Re: Bargain Buys
Love paddock shots like that, nice set of pictures Tim. RRW1 was also stuck on a white Rob Walker Minisprint which that doesn't appear to be? Plate swapping was certainly a regular occurrence with cars like this back in the day and despite 'VPR' being temporarily stuck on the other press sprint it's Ant's white sprint that kept the reg as spelled out in that ad.Tim Harber wrote:RRW1 in picture 51 of 63 in these lovely period shots by Nick Faure

I've been scanning old Autosports to collate race details of my Unipower but in the process couldn't resist scanning a few cars for sale ads, got loads more juicy ones which I'll post up when I get a minute, some very famous cars and some not so but with some famous owners! Proof positive there aswell that Harry Ratcliffe was indeed correct when he told me many years ago that the Buick had long ago lost it's engine when it was offered back to him in the 80's , even though I got a right earful from a subsequent owner for saying it!!
I'll stick some more up later.

Re: Bargain Buys
Interesting! what's the date of the ad?
(I think I paid 5 times that much for it in '02........... )
Oh, and the Fisher GT will be featuring in Maximum Mini 2, but it it's current spyder form, as the roof in that photo was the one removed from the Ecurie Ecosse Tojeiro Coupe when it was converted into a Ford V8 engined Spyder (later destroyed by Bill Stein at Brands) and when that car was later restored (Late '80s, I think) the roof was taken back off the Fisher and refitted to the Tojeiro! And you think Yorkshiremen are tight!
