That's a great looking car!! Just like the old super loons series. I am just gutted that I couldn't make it over for the show, and having read the comments and seen the photo's it's even worse!! But I WILL get a spot sorted for next year and I may even get my brother to find me a nice MK1 and then take it back to California with me..............Paul

The super fast black mini is owned by Mr Pat Ford. He's been doing the Mighty Minis race series for years....

George,

What a brilliant little car you have, & what a fantastic story too!

I absolutely loved your car, as did Pete, & I am sure I wouldn't be telling tales out of school if I was to say that you were very close indeed to winning car of the show.

I really enjoyed Sunday night too, and I am glad that you had a safe journey home.

Here's to next year.

You'd have loved it Paul but there's always next year - which will most likely be a weekend event. Already reserved a great guest speaker but need to sit down with Mark and pin down a date. :D

What I found quite impressive was the complete lack of queues to get on track due to the slick way it was managed, I would be confident to allow 60 cars on track next time round and that's as many as Blyton takes. We probably also had more room than we used just by moving 'the gates' forward, we had quite a large area near the gate unused. I think a burger van would be a good move for next time also as the kitchen struggled to cope (with Mick).

I found your 1/2 hour for novice / 1/2 hour for confident drivers to be unnecessary, people just came and went as they wanted to - I doubt there was ever more than 15 cars on track at a time, and the driving standards where so good that its wasn't really an issue.

I think most people just nipped out for 10-20 min, came in for a natter / collect another passenger, went back out for a bit longer.

that's the nice thing with open pit - if its timed session people feel that they HAVE to get out, to get their moneys worth, if its open pit and you have all day then its a lot more stress free and relaxed as you know your going to get your moneys worth of track time no matter what.

it was pretty laid back!

that's what made it perfect

So did everybody, it was ignored pretty much from the start. We didn't need it as you say due to the good manners and total lack of 'track day hero' type driving, a credit to you all. 8-)

I agree, it was totally unnecessary on the day.

BUT!

We had to take in to account POTENTIAL problems that COULD have arisen.

As you were all such good eggs it was not needed, but it COULD have been essential, and in that eventuality we had at least made contingencies & had a plan. All we wanted to do was keep people safe so they could have fun.

I would also be in principal in favour of doing the same next time.

I'm a bit late with my response but.........

Thanks to all who helped organise the event (Mark, Phil and Javelin) last Sunday at Blyton. I am very fortunate that the venue was only 30mins from my home, and it was my first time there too.

Although my car isn't a MK1 (UFU 4T was originally a 1984 Mini 25 of all things) I felt very honoured to be part of the inaugural MK1 performance event and to "rub shoulders" with greatness, both in terms of cars, people and experience present on the day.

I hope I didn't get in the way on track, my co-driver was significantly faster than me, ironically !! But that said it was nice to be on track with like-minded Mini fans without feeling too much like a mobile chicane........... as I do at regular track days !!

Car of the day for me was the HSCC injected 8-port, what a machine !!

So thanks to those who organised, hats off to you for organising such a successful first event.

Also thanks to all who attended whether on track or for display, those sharing experiences and those who travelled a long distance to be part of the day (thinking especially of the Scottish and Dutch contingents !!) and I hope to be able to participate in future events, not-with-standing my lack of MK1 credentials !!

Phil.

Blyton_Pana_900.jpg
Top day, well done to everyone involved.
The day was a mix of emotions for me, I loved begin around all those fantastic cars. But I also felt very left out, as my car is little more than a silhouette of a Mini on stands! So I left just before the awards and had a very fore filling afternoon grinding and doing a trial fit of my boot floor :D I imagine the afternoon went just as well as the morning.

Nice to see Nick Rodgers again and meet Jeroen Booij.

Roll on next year, I might be ready!

I'd say keep the same idea for next year.

That is a nice shot, for those that didn't go there were lots of cars hidden behind what looks like Postman Pat's love wagon (needs a white roof lads) in the centre  , also quite a few out of shot over to the left and as mentioned 'Rich and the Plastic Population' are out of shot at the bottom (opposite the Minisprints) along with all the traders. (did anyone get a sexy shot of all the sprints in a row? I could do with it!)

Bernie Griffin was lucky to get there in one piece with AJB 66B from what he told me today. Apparently a slate came loose off his garage roof (no jokes please  ) whilst revving the engine up before setting off, 'The Omen' style. and nearly had him. Then on the way whilst clogging along at ahem..at the legal limit..ahem..officer...with 'Smoke Grey' senior alongside for the trip he suddenly had a dear run out in front of him and nearly totalled the whole rig.( I mean a wild dear, not one of his old girlfriends ! ) but he managed to swerve into the fast lane and avoid it..just! He was so terrified he nearly dropped his wallet!

He cheered up later on though when a fella that had been trying to track him down (no he didn't owe him money this time  ) introduced himself and explained how he once owned AJB 66B, 2nd owner after Abingdon! Cool eh ? 8-)
