Mk1 Performance Speed event?
Now I know we've got Blyton coming up very soon but I'm looking to gauge interest in potential speed events we could do this year. Blyton themselves will run sprints for us which is an option at some point, but there is a very good chance we could run a class at other speed venues, cherry picked for being central to get to, having good facilities, historic themes/classes etc. I'm absolutely not suggesting a championship at this stage but want to gauge interest in maybe a hillclimb and/or a sprint this year to see what gives ?
What do you all think?

I'd be up for dusting off my crash hat & fireproofs for a couple of sprints, as long as Squashed mini's were allowed and not considered unsporting. I may have to buy a new seat belt though!
For anyone who doesn't know what I mean, check out the "harness" in the Sprint when it's at Blyton next weekend.

Depending where it is, Id like to watch. But none of our cars would be set up for this.

The '61 is set to be a track day/hill climb/shopping wagon, but it is a long way off ready (years!). However, it would be great to working towards something. Would it be a proper race licence thing, or just 'lets have fun' thing?

Re: Mk1 Performance Speed event?
A Non Race National B license is all that'd be required, suit, skid lid and gloves. Javelin are now (perfectly legally) running sprints without even three of those! I'd be interested in providing a catch all class for Minis and variants/deviants where it wouldn't be necessary to turn your car into a pure off road racer (unless you want to) just like speed events used to be. Check out the Shelsley Mini footage on Youtube from last year's 'Nostalgia' meeting, we got lots of different cars from bog standard road cars without cages to stripped out 8 ports. A handicap system could be adopted.2311Jethro wrote: Would it be a proper race licence thing, or just 'lets have fun' thing?
I've mooted the idea to MAC to see if they'd possiby re run the Mini class in July at Shelsley anyway.

Perhaps you could run it like the Bracket racing that the drag racing crowd use. Have a couple of practice runs to set a time, and then you have a couple of timed runs and see who can get closest without braking out (going quicker than your set time). Consistency is the name of the game and it means and 850 can compete with a 1275.

Re: Mk1 Performance Speed event?
I'm still working on a Mini class for Shelsley Walsh Nostalgia meeting, could well be another good excuse for a get together in July I reckon , and for anyone that's never been it's a very sociable historic event at a very picturesque venue with great facilities (late restaurant and BAR), pit garages, ample camping, classic car show in the car park, etc etc.

Re: Mk1 Performance Speed event?
OK news just in - no official Mini class as such but I've wangled an MCR club invite for any who wish to enter and run together as a club on Sunday July 20th. This will be event run to MSA regs of course and all the usual criteria for competing in speed events will apply, minimum Nat B Non Race license required, up to date lid, overalls, gloves etc

I would have been up for that but can't warrant the cost of a new lid, overalls etc before the wedding

Re: Mk1 Performance Speed event?
Missed it last year as it clashed with Wiscombe, this year Wiscombe killed the car, maybe next year will be 3rd time lucky
