Mk1 steering wheel

Post by davidmuir »

Is it 'worth' restoring my mk1 steering wheel to sell? or is there zero demand ?(hole for hornpush button retention in underside)

I would say Yes it is, really good MK1 wheels are hard to find now & it seems that more & more mini owners are happy to pay over the odds for an item that is already restored & ready to fit.

Bought a reasonable one at Brooklands the other weekend complete with hornpush for just under £40 which is less than you usually pay on ebay these days for just the wheel.

My car is largely original with some period accessories and an alternator conversion. However, all those changes were made to be reversible. One item I have never had is an original wheel and horn push for my car. If one were available at the right price I would buy it. I probably would not install it but I would buy it and keep it with the other parts to return my car to its original configuration if I wanted to.

In short... yes, fix up the wheel and sell it if you don't want it. I'm sure there are more people like me who would want it.
