Radio 2 Drive Your Classic To Work Day

Post by miniminor »

So who's been persuaded to take the mini to work tomorrow to support Chris Evan's Drive Your Classic To Work Day?

Make sure your insurance covers you. Mine specifically excludes commuting to and from a place of work. Besides I think I'll struggle to get the cement mixer and the rest of my tools in a Mini!

If you are insured with Carole Nash then it seems you can take it to work tomorrow and get free commuter cover for the day, and raise cash for chairty at the same time.
Looks like the addition is included at no additional cost, although it is advised to ring them in advance to confirm comprehensive cover.

Several years ago the U.S. monthly magazine "Classic Motorsports" declared the second Friday of each month as "Drive Your Classic to Work Day". I have my Mini insured with a classic car agreed value coverage policy which officially limits its use and specifically excludes commuting. However, it also specifically mentions valid uses of the car including attending shows and events that promote the old-car hobby. So... I have taken my car to work on a few Fridays but not every month. Hopefully your similar policies in the U.K. would allow similar use.

I no longer drive to work but my daughter has gone out in our Mk1 today - having washed off the "Sahara Dust" first :)

Coincidentally I did exactly the same
Didnt see any other minis on the road, just an 80's Porsche 911 and a Mk2 Golf GTI.
Had a nice journey, pottered along at 50, no radio, back windows open listening to the quiet burble of an 850 exhaust, simple pleasures!

and then - mine broke down in - as it happens- the pub carpark - seems like a bit of a fuel vapor lock going on , had to leave it to cool for half a dark mild and a pacquet of salt n vinegar crips then it fired up on the button
