I've often wondered whether it discolours to green over long periods, perhaps additives in the fluid do it. So far I have discovered that the black levers on switches fade to transparent and transparent insulation on wiring terminals become black over time. Weird things happen to plastic over a 50 year period.

Or they might just be green.
